Hi,
I've suffered from tension headaches for the past two-and-a-half years, and recently they've become a whole lot worse.
I've tried various medications to no effect, and today I was prescribed Propranolol (80mg).
I've seen quite a few things online about Propranolol in relation to migraine headaches, but nothing about it being used to treat tension headaches.
I was just wondering if anyone could please tell me if they've tried this for tension headaches, and if it worked?
Many thanks.
I posted before. I have taken Inderal/propranolol since 1969 for maintenence of arrhythmias, (tacycardia and Bigeminy and Trigeminy) and then elevated BP. When I was younger early 20 and 30's I would get cluster headaches. Since on Inderal, I dont get headaches at all. Had one a couple weeks ago and prior to that it has been years since I have had a headache. I dont keep anything in the house for headache other then asprin for low dosage at bedtime. I would guess its the Inderal that helps. Just try it and dont read all the pros and cons that can get too suggestive. Its a great old drug which is safe.
Thanks Lindy. Yes your right, I won't investigate it too much...well, I'll try anyway!
Hi Holly_m
Yes, the propranolol works for me and my headaches.....i suffer from migraine and tension headches. The only side effect has been weight gain...especailly round my middle area, which according to both my GP and pharmasist should settle down eventually!
Just try it, my headaches are almost erradicated !!!
That's great news Kermodesmum. I'm so glad found something that worked. Pity about the weight gain though; I hope it settles down.
Can I ask how long you were taking it before you felt a benefit?
Thanks.
Hi
I have been taking them for nearly 12 months now, i felt the effects within a month or so....it was such a relief.....!
The weight gain is an issue, but compared to the debilitating headaches it’s a price worth paying! I really do hope they work for you and good luck
Thanks. Yes, to be honest I was thinking the same thing; I really don't mind a bit more flab for less headaches! I'd rather be fat than miserable and in pain!
Thanks again.
