Has anyone tried melatonin?

Did it help with anything? Or were there negative effects?

I’ve been taking Melatonin (30mg) for almost a year now. Most nights it helps me sleep. No side effects and doesn’t interfere with the Zoloft I’m taking.

Thanks! I actually did go ahead and try it for a couple of weeks but it didn’t work for me. Though it did make me pretty drowsy at the outset, it didn’t seem to help me fall asleep any faster, nor did it prevent that middle-of-the-night waking, which is really what I was trying to address. Glad it works for you though!

do you take magnesium cat? that helps me sleep but lately ive been waking two or three times a night x

It works amazingly for me. I haven’t really needed it since I started HRT, but I have had a very stressful week and I slept so badly two nights in a row with my dreaded 4am wakening after tossing and turning. Took melatonin the next night, slept more soundly and then when I did wake at 4am got back to sleep almost immediately.

I have a colleague who has taken it for years, he takes three times the dose I was prescribed. Maybe your dose wasn’t high enough for your body?

I do! But I’ve been waking in the night as well – does that mean it works lol?
I don’t actually have any difficulty falling asleep – it’s the STAYING asleep gah!! SO very tired : (

Thanks for sharing!
I didn’t want to go too high because of the conflicting literature on the subject – I just went with the dosage the doctor recommended (can’t remember offhand what it was now, but it wasn’t the high dose). The thing is, I don’t have a problem falling asleep at all – it’s the staying asleep!! SO frustrating because I’m really tired gah!!

im the same so tired, which magnesium are you taking and how much? x

Glycinate, 300. What about you?

glycinate 200 x

I haven’t looked at literature on this one… I live in Australia and it’s quite straightforward to get here. You can even get it over the counter but at a super-low dose. My GP says it has no side effects, is non-addictive and completely safe.

It definitely does help me stay asleep. Had a restless night last night though thankfully no long awake periods. I hate insomnia. I try doing a yoga nidra style body scan nowadays if I can’t get back to sleep and it sometimes works.
