Hi has anyone tried Silicol gel for acid indigestion and heartburn ?
I had read an article about it in a magazine a while ago and decided to try it as its supposed to have no side effects. It works by coating all your digestive system and absorbing any irritants.
The reason for me trying it is i originally started with acid indigestion where it rises up your throat, this seemed to settle a bit but then i started getting bloating/feeling full after meals. Now it is a sore feeling/discomfort sometimes when i swallow, i can actually feel the food go down. I am constantly burping, which is something i learned to do after having trouble with pains in chest due to trapped wind. I also occasionally get sharp pains between shoulder blades.
I am one of those people that reads the side effects of medication and has to decide if they would be worse that current problem.
I tried to cope using Peptobismol and Gaviscon but after i found i had slightly raised blood calcium had to stop as they contain calcium.
I did reluctantly try Omeprazole ? but on the 2nd day had visual disturbance eg flashing lights and distorted vision so stopped as hospital said it was possible side effect.
Hi there, my sympons are very much the same as yours and yes i tried silicol gel in the beginning but unfortunately it didnt do me any good. I am at the moment on a concoction of Sucralfate, omeprazole, ranitidine and gaviscon advance and i must say my sympons have eased. The acid reflux is probably about 70% better although i still get alot of stomach pains and bloated feeling. Ive had an ultarsound, endoscopy, and ct scan and nothing really notable has shown up other than a flat pancreas compared to it being oval.
See if you can try any of these medications or maybe lanzoprazole instead of the omeprazole.
I really sympathize with you as ive been in pain for 5 months now and still dont see a light at the end of the tunnel, i hope you soon get some relief x
Thank you Nicola for the reply. I am really hoping they dont suggest the endoscopy as i dont know if i could cope with it, although it might give me some answers as to what is causing myindigestion.
I read that certain foods can trigger it, tomatoes, onions, chocolate etc so trying to be careful what i eat.
A 70% improvement is good, hope it continues for you x
The endoscopy really wasnt that bad. I had the sedative and it was over before i knew it and hardly felt a thing. My mum recently had one too but didnt have the sedative and wished she had.
Lots of foods do affect me particularly bread and dairy products aswell as currys, greasy foods and tomatoes. I think the worst thing is knowing i may never eat alot of foods that i love again without being in pain so its all about getting your head around healthier foods.
Whatever tests they suggest for you can only be good news so stick with it, good luck x
I have been taking silicol gel for a week now - it calms my IBS symptoms and helps with acid reflux It is expensive but to me it's worth the money!
Hi Jackie, i used to suffer for years with IBS but rarely get it now. The heartburn and indigestions seem to have taken over instead.
Yes it is expensive, but when your desperate you will try anything to get relief. So glad its helping you, i find it soothes my throat quite quickly.
Hello Frances....hope you find this useful. As others have indicated, by other readers an endoscopy is much worse than its reputation! Please don't fret it at all.
I undewent one and also had one for my stomach and took day off of work each time. After each one I showed up at the office 2 hours later because I felt fine.
Please do not refuse to have this done. It is very important. It is no challenge at all to do it. After the injection you fall into a fantastic altered state and you really do not know what is happening.
Interestingly, I happened to find silicolgel at boots while on holiday in London just 3 weeks ago. It is a Godsend for my IBS. Really. All symptoms, physical and mental have been greatly reduced...I would say by about 70-80%, depending upon who knows what else.IBS is a really arbitrary thing. Not only that, everybody and every body is different.
I have not percieved any side-effects at all. The main ingredient is silica, NOT silicon. If you google it you will discover what Louis Pastuer said about this well over 100 years ago.
It is produced in Germany, and although I live in Germany, I took a trip to London for me to discover it. Go figure.
Perhaps you can get it online. I have just ordered 2 500ml bottles online for about 12 Euros each; that's peanuts in the pounds. That's alot cheaper than in the UK and the bottle is a about a pint!
All the best.
Warmest.
William
Thank you for your reassurance over the endoscope, i would have it with the sedation if its offered to me. Also happy that the silica gel may provide relief for some people on here.
Best wishes, Frances
Endoscopy is nothing to fear, it takes less than 30 minutes and they knock you out. The restof the day you feel slight pain in the stomach probably from the poking around but its worth the price to know exactly whats going on. I highly recommend it.
I have tried Silicogel for reflux with great success. I also take Omeprazole too. I have aweful reflux sometimes 'til late in the night. Acid repeating into my throat causing coughing and sore throat. Silicogel works for me.
Bit late to this discussion but just wanted to say that sillicol gel has worked extremely well for me. I tried it because my symptoms were extremely bad, even with omeprazole. Sillocol gel worked within 2 - 3 days, fantastic.
I also love this stuff. I have used it for years though it is expensive - £16.99 at my health store here in UK.
There are some very good comments on here but I have to disagree re the endoscopy, I've had it twice and last time I had the sedation but was conscious throughout and I've panicked each time, I think I need a shed load of sedation but it is over quite quickly!
I'm stressing at the moment as having problems with reflux and don't want another one! I'm going to try the silicol gel
It is not the endoscopy that is the problem it is the enema they give you the day before. It made me so sore and I was even still going when I was at the hospital. It is too strong.
I am also taking omeprazole and wonder if it would clash?
Has anyone else got thoughts on this?
This is the second time I have posted this, the first one never went anywhere.
Hi Dixieb, just seen your message but cant find your previous one. My endoscopy was down the throat to look at stomach for acid damage, is your to look at the bowel ? I had the bowel one years ago and the not eating solid food was the worst for me, i was so hungry. I dont think you take the silicol with the laxatives they give you.
Good luck with the investigations , Frances
Yes it was the bowel. I have typed this reply twice so will make short and sweet this time.
Horrible day and night before and on the day ok but the machine froze twice, all well except I have diverticulitis.
Hi yes I have tried this product, I have been prescribed some medication for an illness which I have and they have slowed my digestion a lot making me feeling sickly with lots of trapped wind and my stomach is producing lots of acid leaving me with burning in my stomach and throat. As soon as I tried this liquid it calmed everything down and seems to have cured my constant flatulence I am really pleased with it. Its cheaper if you buy it from eBay you may be able to get it from your gp, I got mine from holland and Barrett at £18.99, eBay sells it for £26.99.
Give it a try it's really helps Good luck
Hello, I have been using sillicol gel for over a year, I have been a long sufferer of IBS and feel as if I have suffered from Indigestion acid reflux all my life. I have Lansoprazole prescribed by my GP but have found that this by itself is not enough. Since taking sillicol gel I have found that it has been very effective for both keeping my IBS under control and particularly good at managing my acid reflux. I tend to take a dose when going to bed so not suffering from acid reflex during the night. When the sytoms are particularly bad will take three doses during the day. When I am having a very bad episode of acid feels like my stomach has turned into a volcano the sillicol gel calms it all down. i would not live without it now. (Also stopped the wind problem which was very embarrassing) Best place to buy is Amazon if you sign up to their subscription service you can buy for £12;50 saving £6 a time.
Yes, I take this. I refused PPIs and take Ranitidine 150mg twice daily. The Silicol Gell I take if I get acid refluxing. It is £18.99 H & B but they also have offers on buy one get one half price - so I stock up then. They have even had it in the penny sale - buy one get one for a penny. My doctor has never heard of it (not surprised!!).
I've also found silicol gel to be brilliant. I've been taking it for around 8 months and in that time my IBS symptoms have almost completely cleared up - when I started taking it I was in the middle of the worst flare-up I've ever had. It calmed things down in a few days although it took a few months to get to the point I'm at now, where I don't worry too much about what I'm eating and truly feel 'normal' again. I still also take omeprazole (now down to 20mg every two days) but that's it. I tolerate PPIs better that ranitidine, etc; the ranitidine causes me to bruise easily so I can't take it). After years of trying different treatments, that never worked, it's been quite a revelation. Expensive but more than worth it. I can't help feeling it could save the NHS a huge amount of money if it was available as a treatment from the GP.
