Are you satisfied with the prostate artery embolization (PAE) procedure to treat the large prostate size?
I had mine in February this year (2025). Has transformed my life! I’ve gone from having to get up 5 or 6 times every night to sleeping through most nights, and very occasionally having to get up just once.
I can go in to town without having to know where every public convenience is.
No negative side effects at all
My prostate was 190gms - not sure of it’s present size - though I have my three-yearly prostate MRI next week so should know more soon.
I’m told prostate size will probably still increase over time - as new arteries may grow to supply the prostate - but all other procedures remain available for the future, as does repeat PAE.
I’ve been very happy with the result, as you can probably tell
Was a catheter through your wrist or groin area?
Sorry - only just saw your reply. They access the artery through the groin on the right side.
I am 52 and had one done in May of 2025 after having a foley for 3 months. Unfortunately I had to self cath 3 times a day, cut down to 2 then finally down to 1. Started getting UTI’s and had another cystoscopy done. Unfortunately the PAE worked enough but my prostate didn’t shrink enough so I am getting an aquablation done in 3 weeks. The surgery was easy, the recovery was easy, but it’s not 100% effective for all people. I’m still glad I did it as it gave me some relief.
What was your prostate size before the PAE, over 80 cc?
It was right at 80cc
Do you have any irreversible complications such as urinary incontinence, frequent urination and urinary urgency and so on after aquablation therapy or there is no long term side effect at all post procedure? Thank you for sharing.
I had mine done at the end of October 2025. I am almost 4 months out and very little improvement. I was told that 15% could have little to no relief and I am sad that it’s looks like I am one of them. I had high hopes for this. I was trying to avoid the procedures that required catheterization for several days.
I had PAE about 5 years ago.
They warned me that with my small prostate (~40cc) the success rate is about 50%.
I was in the no-improvement half.
I just had an aquablation a couple of weeks ago, and so far it is much better. Details posted elsewhere here.
