Has anyone used Emu oil for Vulva irritation???

Wondering if anyone has had success with using Emu oil to soothe vulva irritation, inflammation and itching? If so, what brands? How often do you apply? Is it supposed to sting when its first applied? I want to make sure I'm not causing any more harm. I'm looking for an alternative to strong steroids or at least something to use with it that will actually heal my skin.

Hi Clara,

I have used it for a vulvar dermatitis without any success. It’s a canadian brand. It didn’t burn but I just haven’t seen any progress.

I’ve been suffering for two months now and have stopped using steroids. I’m just using a moistorizer (Avene Calcifate) and barrier cream.

I just realize I have already commented your other post. Based on your situation I think you need a holistic treatment. Your skin clearly went to some kind of trauma and it’s like your body still think there’s some kind of infection and still send nervous signal to your skin.

Your symptoms are real but there is nothing wrong with your skin. I believe they are psychosomatic syndroms. Antidepressant would really help I’m sure. Talk your doctor. Maybe a psychologist too to help your deal with your anxiety and eliminate the trauma. For the skin, warm bath with baking with soda to release itching and relax. Emu oil is a good option twice a day. Take a 100% pure brand. Throw steroids away.

I’m currently exploring all of these options. Controlling my anxiety and putting my mind on something else is really helping. I’m starting to see small progress.

Clara…try the Cerave range of products. Use the hydrating wash and the hydrating cream in the big tub afterwards. Use a bog blob of the cream just before bed and a lighter amount in the morning. Works brilliantly. It contains hyaluronic acid which is well known for calming down inflamed skin. Its not a steroid so you can use as often as you like.

Thank you

Hey Clara,

I know you’ve commented on one of my posts and I was just having a read through yours to see what your situation was. Our situations are different, I have burning and you have itching. An array of specialists thought I had contact dermatitis and made me change everything, from soap (I use dermaveen) to underwear being 100% cotton, etc. I was on prolonged corticosteroid use as well, and that (alongside other factors like birth control and recurrent thrush) is what lead my skin to burn. Emu oil has helped me repair my damaged layer of skin. I’ve tried many, many things and it’s not ideal to hear, but with problems like ours it’s down to trial and error. Emu oil is a natural medicine, I believe the worst that could happen with using it, is that it doesn’t work and no other long term effects. If you use it, let me know how you go.
