i expect this sounds silly but I was just having a shower, and when drying , I dried my operated knee , and as I bent it I noticed I have that awfull crunchy sound again, when he did my knee, he said not only was the cartilage gone, but also the bone had crumbled, so now I have awfull visions that the bone has crumbled again, or at least started to, and may be my half knee will have nothing to hang on too, I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow, hopefully to be told when he will do the other one, but if this ones not ok, then what's the point. Am I just panicking, is this crunching ok, was it there all the time, and I just didn't notice, or may be he should have done the whole knee in the first place.😓 my other knee crunches all the time, and I now this one used to, but I'm sure it had stopped since surgery, anyone got any answers, please.
thank heavens you are seeing the surgeon tomorrow, and hopefully he'll be able to reassure you. I have had clicking sounds. . and lots of people say clunking sounds . .and grinding sounds . . but not sure about crunchy sounds! Hope it's OK!
hi mandy i presume you mean partial replacement ,hopefully nothing is wrong but the only time that happened to me was when there was broken cement floating around knee after knee replacement i had that awful crunchy sound plus my knee would just give way .i know the crunching of knee before surgery as i had that too the only differance between the two was the crunching before surgery was by the knee cap but when cement was loose it was in the whole knee if that makes any sense i hope things will be ok
You no when you put your hand on an arthritic knee, and bend the knee ,it sounds kind of like you have lots of loose bits in there , not plesent , well that's the sound, my other one is the same, but I'm sure this one wasn't. I really hope to god this hasn't all been for nothing.😟
when i saw consultant i got xray and it showed up with loose cementfloating around make sure you get one to put your mind at ease
They phoned today actually to get me to go in half an hour earlier to have an X-ray, . So at least that's good, . The crunchy sound is all over the knee, same as other one, except I have a big scar on this one now
What do they do if it is loose cement?
im afraid they have to remove loose cement its a kind of washout of the knee they opened up the scar andwashed out the loose stuff now to tell you im living in the south of ireland so maybe if your in a different country it may be done through keyhole not sure but for me it was like starting all over again so lets hope its nothing il be thinking of you let us know how you get on
God poor you, I really hope it isn't that, although that is better than my knee crumbling, can't see that going any where.😟
I will let you no how I get on , I thought I was doing pretty well untill tonight, wish I hadn't had a shower now😏
your mind is going a mile a minuite so try and relax let them that know put your mind at ease tomorrow
Yes I no your right, I know, I just can't get over my blimin knee crunching at me again, I thought that was a thing of the past , on that side at least., I didn't even no I had cement in it,
So much of the noise is caused by the soft tissue not being tightened up yet. As you continue to excercise much of this loose clunky feeling will start to go away but you may have it a year or so. I have a spacer in place waiting for the staph to be completely eradicated (it is now offically gone). Even though I have only been allowed no more than a 60% bend and until a week ago, only 50% weight load on the leg, I am noticing the leg tightening up some and the spacer being a little less clunky. 2 weeks from this Thursday I go in and get the new knee installed and then start the rehab process all over. Look forward to surgery #11 being the last on this leg
Thanks oldfatguy , I really hope everything goes well for you at long last, you've been through so much, and waited so long. I'll come back on later, when I get back from hospital, hopefully with good news,.😊
not knowing if something is wrong is scary so at least you will know where you stand after hospital appointment and no matter what the outcome its better to know then you can deal with it you seem a strong woman to me good luck chin up x
Hello Mandy, your letter sounds like it could have been written by me. I had a partial on my left knee in January and I now have crunching right across when I put my hand on my knee cap and raise my leg to straighten it. The only difference is, I didn't have it before my op. I have nearly completed a six week course of gym circuits with the physio, which has been so painful to do. To me, I feel that also my replacement has not worked. I am not due to go back to consultant until September, if I'm lucky. When I went in march for the 6 week checkup I was in there literally 5 minutes, but the doctor,( it wasn't my consultant) did show concern about the crunching but just said to keep up with the exercises. I would be really interested to know how you get on today, all the best, Susan.
Oh dear, well they have booked me in for X-ray as well, and apparently if it's the cement worked loose, ( as you would have read on here) it will show up, I will come back on this afternoon and let you all no, . I really hope it's nothing but healing, as my other knee isn't coping anymore, and is probably even a bit more painfull than the one that's been done already, I can't go any further forward with physio cause it won't let me.😏 what a state to get in. 😒
Thanks Linda, I can't wait to find out, it's all in my imagination, I've got every thing crossed, here's hoping I don't come down with a crash 🙏
Hi, I'm back, the X-ray was fine, no problems, I was worrying over nothing , it is what you said oldfatguy, just all slowly healing, thanks all for helping me through a panic. The surgeon is very pleased with my knee , says I have worked very hard, and will book me in for no 2 at the end of July/ beginning of August. So it's all good,.😀so I'm a happy bunny untill I go and over do it again that is,😱
Phew!! That's a relief for you, I'm so glad your mind is put at rest . Susan x
