I'd welcome hearing if Prednisone has affected your eyesight. I've been on it almost 2 years and have had to get my prescriptions for my eye glasses changed twice, and still my eyesight will vary slightly throughout the week. When driving things just aren't as sharp as I'd like them but still I mangage fine, similarly when reading a book my eyes just don't focus the way they use to. I believe Prednisone causes some fluctuations in sight that can keep shifting. Do I have this right?
I am finding the same problem, occasional double vision more often, blurred vision. I have had my eyes checked because I am a tennis official and need 20/20 vision. Dr's can't find anything wrong and I am at the point that this is attributed to prednisone.
You would be well advised to see an ophthalmologist
on a regular basis if you are noticing changes, whatever
the cause.
This is not on point, but I was put on plaquenil in addition to prednisone, for about 3 months. Because of extreme light sensitivity, and the fact that it did nothing to improve my symptoms, dropped the plaquenil, and the light sensitivity dissappeared.
just coincidence...... eye test Thursday. Can't decide if problems are PMR/Pred related or simply overdoing computer use (programming). My eyes always did become tired, but now more so. Either way things aren't as they were. Harder to focus, changing from one day to next. Noddy glasses help as I can always find some angle of head to focus but that also means I work round it instead of investigating.
Yes! I've had four different pairs of glasses in the last 2 1/2 years.
Went to optician today and eyes have changed yet again (fifth pair coming up!!). The change is never severe, but enough for me to want to change my glasses. Thanks, pred!
Yes, my eyesight varies throughout the day. Just had cataract surgery ! But haven't reaped the total benefits because I think prednisone is causing, blurred vision, double vision and made it hard for my eyes to focus. They take more time. My eye doc says that all looks fine with my eyes.
definitely. hard to focus at times. just this morning things were blurry and it took a while to focus. definitely varies throughout the day. fun, isn't it?
Have been on preds for 9 months and during this period I have had problems with high pressure as I suffer from glaucoma. My eyes are constantly burning and watering I limit time spent on the internet and watching T V. I have changed my glasses twice in the last 6 months but nothing seems to improve. My Dr, doesn't seem to be able to diagnose the cause or the Eye Dept. at the local hospital.
I too am noticing blurry vision on some days, especaily in the AM. This symptom never occurred during my first bout with PMR, 4 years ago, but I am experiencing many other new symptoms as well This darn disorder certainly keeps you on your toes, however unsteady they may be.
Hi Danrover, I think your comment is definitely on point and I'll discuss this with my eye dr. Thanks.
I've been seeing my opthalmolgist twice a year and have just made another appointment. Thanks for your suggestion Judygirl.
While my eyesight hasn't changed according to the optomertrist I had to get new glasses for using the computer and doing close up work as I just couldn't focus using the multifocals anymore. Bizarre.
Hi Leonard, If you would like the specfics of my case, plaquenil dosage, prednisone dosage, and lengths of time with symptoms, or any other data, will be happy to provide. will have to look over records and history though. My rheumatologist took me off the plaquenil after I complained about light sensitivity to the Optomologist, the eye exam ordered by rheumatologist. I think the eye exams ar part of the prednisone monitor, or plaquinal, but not sure. Have similar symptoms?
Your timing could not have been better, yes I am having sight problems, blurred vision on and off and having to book another appointment at the opticians next week. I have been taking Pred. for a number of months now and have been reducing them slowly, but in the last couple of weeks have had to increase the dose again.
This has just been talked about somewhere else - and a few people said they'd had the same experience as me. We have found we often had to move our specs up and down our noses to get the best result! I have never fancied multi-focals so I had distance and computer specs anyway, the computer specs now double for reading as I'm old enough to be developing the accomodation problem - and since I am very short sighted I sometimes can't see because I have to hold it too far away But I thought about it long and hard and persisted with the moving position rather than spending a fortune on new specs - even single distance lenses for me are a couple of hundred pounds!
All this actually was evident in the 5 years BEFORE pred but after PMR symptoms appeared. I suspect there may be an effect on the muscles in the eye due to the PMR as well. Then the addition of pred doesn't help. It has certainly improved a lot for me in the last few months.
Bear in mind too that as we age we need significantly more light to be able to see well. I've just had new prescription sunglasses done to my most recent prescription and I definitely see better with the new normal ones when driving than with the new sunglasses. I can read my Kindle fairly well with the distance sunglasses but not the distance ordinary glasses for a similar reason.
I just get the cheapest glass possible. Have ordered new reading/long distance and sun glasses at a very respectable optician The cost €19 each - in the old frames.
I don't go a bundle on bottle bottoms! It is such a pleasure not to have sore patches on my ears and nose which I have had all my life because of the weight of the specs. The cheapest/thickest lenses for me need a pretty solid frame and the whole thing is heavy. I did have frames that had the tennis string stuff holding the lenses at one time but they are next to impossible to get now.
Ah! Same as my husband. He always has to get special frames/glasses (usually cost €600)!!! Luckily his eyesight hasn't changed in 13 years.
Quite - once every 8 years is quite often enough!
