Have been given Dermovate cream

Hi all, i recently renewed my prescription and had to explain to the nurse practitioner why i need to use the dermovate as i have moved doctors and noticed i was using an out of date tube of dermovate ointment. They have prescribed me dermovate cream and i used it 2 days ago and it hasnt helped my itching that i get occasionally, i have noticed alot of posts on here about reactions to the cream could this be a reaction or maybe it is coinciding with a flare?

The nurse said they will have to send me for a biopsy if i use this tube too quickly, but i was wanting to go back to them and ask for the ointment instead of the cream but im worried that they will be wary of prescribing it to me so soon.

I only used a tiny amount of the cream, should i keep on with it and see how it goes and do you think the doctors will be fine with me asking to swap to the ointment?

Hi Jessicat, I would press on and see what happens.  If you are not feeling any relief then you will have to explain that you need the other cream as this one isnt working for you.  I use the cream and it does the job, but we all react differently.

I wouldnt use creams..many contain alcohol which make the itching worse. I would try Cortizone 10 ointment...it worked great for me!

I think that the doctors will be fine about letting you swap to ointment.  I had a similar experience myself when I moved city.  It's well known that ointment is - usually - better option for people with LS.  Good luck in speaking up.
