Have come off esyma medication. I have fibroids.

Hi, I haven't been on here for ages. I I have fibroids and have come off Esyma medication 4 weeks ago. I took It for a few Months on and off. Heavy bleeding started yesterday and today. I find It very stressful and hard to cope with. Rachel.

Hey Rachel

Sorry you're having a bad time of it. Having been taken off Esmya, consultant prescribed tranexamic acid to slow bleeding. It’s supposed to reduce in effectiveness over time but helped enormously over the last few cycles which clashed with preplanned travels. Hope it may work for you xx

Hi Rachel/Novelchick

I know exactly how you feel. I came off Esmya in December and my periods have been so bad since I find it really hard to cope. I’m low in iron all the time even though I take supplements from my GP. This causes me to suffer with restless legs and for the past six weeks have barely slept more than two or three hours a night. I feel low and tearful, anxious and dizzy because of it all.  I too have been prescribed tranexamic acid but haven’t tried it yet. Was worried as my dad died of a blood clot but they have said my risk factors are low so it would be fine to take it. Would be interested to hear of any side effects. It ruins holidays as you can’t swim without there being a disaster and always having to be close to a toilet. I hate it all. I’m so close to saying I want an operation but I’m 52 and they keep saying I will get to natural menopause soon so it’s not worth it and just hang on. I don’t think anyone really realises just how much us ladies suffer with fibroids and because they are a benign condition we just get left to cope alone when in fact it has a massive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing to the point where’s you can barely go on like it.

Best wishes to you both and hope your problems resolve soon

xx

hi wonder how big is your fibroids? so sorry to hear you in stress

Hey Rachel,

i feel your pain. I used to take tranxanemic acid ( cyclo-f) between esmya. I never took the full dose as my dad was prone to have blood clots but I did help massively to control my heavy periods. I used to buy over the counter at boots. I hope this helps.

Thanks Sue. Would definitely try tranexamic acid, being mindful of side effects in your case. Trips to Devon & London weren’t dictated by toilet plans. Am 49, so we are similar end of the spectrum. Really hope it works for you x

Sorry Tranexamic acid

Hi Novelchick, thanks for your message. When I came off Esyma last year as advised, I had heavy bleeding after 2 and a bit weeks. This was at the end of last year. I then went back onto Esyma till a month ago. It mainly stopped the bleeding. I have heavy periods due to the fibroids I think. Thanks for mentioning tranexamic acid. I have been advised to take this before to help and have used it and it did help. I started it again today thanks.

Hi Sue. Thanks for your message. I'm sorry your periods have been bad since you came off Esyma last year. It can be so stressful. Poor you, suffering with restless legs and low in iron. I am taking iron tablets that I got myself. You will have to see how you feel about the tranexamic  acid tablets. I have found that they reduced the bleeding when I have taken them. I feel that I am on edge when I have my period when it's heavy as it restricts me. I am worried about going out, and having to change sanitary towels etc. Sometimes I have to change them so often it is so frustrating. I wouldn't be able to cope with my period on holiday I don't think. I feel that I can't always go out when my period is heavy as I need to be near a toilet a lot. It is difficult and I think maybe there should be more help for us women with these problems. I have had several hospital and doctors appointments about it and I don't feel they have always given me a clear plan as to what can be done. My last hospital appointment was last week and I have been given some options as to what they could do regarding the fibroids but  I am unsure as to what to do. Thanks, Rachel.

Hi MsHui,thanks for your message. I can't remember the size of fibroids. They have shrunk very slightly since taking Esyam medication. Rachel.

Hi Maria.

Thanks for your message. Sorry about your Dad having blood clots. I am glad that the tranxanemic acid helped controlled your periods. I have found this has helped me before and have started it again today, after having heavy bleeding. I got mine on prescription. Thanks, Rachel.

oh it would be great if you know what size is the fibroids as my friends shrunk her fibroids and now pain free after using a product but it has to be not over 10cm i think. You could ask the doctor report to have it handy so you know it wont get bigger as if it  keep getting bigger you will have more pain in future.

Wish i would have thought of other procedures other than open myomectomy will I actually wanted a laparoscopic myomectomy but they didn't do that😑😔😤😞😧. I don't like how the scar is looking or the healing process. but I needed a solution ASAP because my period were spontaneously and the pain had gotten worse with thick blod cloths that scared me. In a way I'm happy I the surgery because I don't have to deal with horrible cramping and heavy bleeding but🗣 I'm not happy with the scar😤😬👹😞😢😭😭😦😦😱😾💣

Hi I'm going to try and get a doctor's appt this week to discuss my fibroids. I will check the measurement. Since taking esyma medication has only shrunk slightly.

I started period bleeding on Saturday. It wasnt too bad. On Sunday it was very heavy and I started taking the transaxemic acid tablets 2 days ago. Had some heavy bleeding yesterday with large blood clots. It was awful yesterday, I went out with my family for a picnic. The bleeding came on heavy and I had to keep going to use the toilet where we were.I couldn't venture too far because of it and it leaves me feeling so stressed. Today it was heavy for a bit earlier. Am findingit hard to cope with. Feel I am restricted when it's heavy bleeding like that. Rachel.

Hi, I have had heavy bleeding after 4 weeks of coming off Esyma medication. Was bad and started to take transaxemic acid when the bleeding got heavy and had period. Over a week after starting to take this medication, it helped the bleeding to ease off but I am still bleeding and don't know how long it will be like this for. I don't think I can keep on with the medication. I have fibroids and have been given some options as to how to treat fibroids, but I don't feel I have been given enough information to help and don't have enough knowledge from the hospital or doctor. Does anyone know how long you can take the transaxemic acid tablets for? Thanks Rachel.

Hi Rachel,

Sorry to hear that.  I only took it for 3/4 days.  I think you should call you doctors. Also read the leaflet included in the box.
