Well after 3 days in Antabuse I've caved in and had a bottle of cider it was only a 330ml bottle oh n a few mouthfuls of pins and lemonade anyways that was 2 hours ago n I can't understand why I've had no reaction as such I feel a bit sleepy but that's all
Where's the being violently sick etc?
I'm confused
It probably hasn't built up on your system enough however you have been very very lucky this could have made you horribly Ill and been very frightening you shouldn't test this drug and if you feel you cannot stop drinking you need to stop taking it and ask your doctor for something else. I know it's hard but please try for your children's sake honestly life without drinking can be great, I didn't believe it either but it can xx
What strength of Antabuse are you taking ? I'm on 500mg and have had two bad experiences with alcohol in food by mistake. I was severely ill. I have been told by the consultant that if I have one alcoholic drink I will not make the ambulance !! You are playing a stupid game be careful !!
Don't take anymore Antabuse. The reason you have not had a reaction is probably, as jo61433 said, it hasn't built up in your system enough. This is a good thing. You can't be sure you won't drink, so don't take the Antabuse.
Have decided the Antabuse isn't for me
I'm not mentally ready for this
Have had no adverse reactions to drinking whilst taking it
I know i was very lucky
I wish it had made me sick but it didn't
I have binned the Antabuse n know I need to do this out of willpower not with a pill
Start a alcohol treatment group on Monday so will see where we go from there!
Good luck Anna, i gave up alcohol 5years ago! The only thing that helped me stop was AA! I do't attend meetings anymore however!
I was self medicating with alcohol, coping with depression, also masking things that had happened to me! Just wanted to drink till i blacked out and slept!
Anna if you can give up, your mind becomes so much clearer, you cope with things better, but you will have face your demons head on! But you will get though! Also if you on antidepressants and drinking it's a bad combination, i did it for years!
Good luck and if i can help in anyway let me know!
I have been on it for almost 2 years, I've stopped for a few weeks and drank. The first time I have 2 light beers and my face was swollen had a mind grain and heavy breathing, it was like that for a long time when I had a couple. I stopped for 5 or so days had 8-10 beers had the same symptoms then I went to bed and 2 hours later I couldn't stop puking and was going to go to the hospital because I thought I was going to my to die. I'm on other medication too now Christmas I had a few glasses of wine and a couple
Light beer before I felt swollen headeck and stopped. Tonight I was with some friends had 5 in 10 hours and probably 3 in the last 2 so I don't know it could be the other medication I am on, my does is low maybe I am handling the side effects but IMO you can but if I wasn't on it I would have had a lot more and would probably done something stupid. I also had people around keeping a eye on me
Christmas and tonight it's not really something you want to chance.
You cannot drink while on Antabuse, it can have a serious reaction with alcohol and it can kill you. Consider using Naltrexone or Nalmefene (The Sinclair Method) if you want to continue drinking. Antabuse should have been banned years ago and I am surprised anybody still prescribes it.
I'll look into them, thanks for the suggestion. I just don't know if they are approved in my Country.
Alcohol and Antabuse can be lethal and taking both together is stupid. If you can't stop drinking then look into the drugs Paul has suggested. He is a specialist in alcohol problems. I didn't think Antabuse was prescribed very often now. You can die from drinking whilst taking Antabuse.
What country is that Oneday?
I am not a fool to take antibuse and alcohol .but my wife was mixing disulfiram in my food with out my notice plz suggest drug to antidote disulfiram
There isn't currently an antidote for Antabuse. It takes about a week to leave your body and it would be dangerous to drink until that week has passed.
Consider a more effective and safer treatment. Antabuse really should be banned as it can kill when mixed with alcohol.
Have a look at:
https://patient.info/forums/discuss/useful-resources-487627
and read about The Sinclair Method. Also Google it to find out more. It is safe and effective and, unlike Antabuse, which is a punitive deterrant, the drugs used for The Sinclair Method treat the source of the problem.
Then your poor wife must be desperate - living with an alcoholic who will not stop! You are a fool indeed to not realise this
Actually Olivo, his wife is risking prison for manslaughter. The whole point of Antabuse is that people KNOW they have taken it and therefore what the consequences of drinking are. Slipping a drug into someone's food is not only highly illegal but also extremely dangerous. Especially this particular drug.
Anna don't you dare drink again! I had an implant done 2 months ago, and I caved in yesterday and had a few beers and a vodka, and I can tell you I have been terrified I was going to die. Fantastically stupid; it is everything the warnings warn you about. DIRE. I have had malaria and dengue fever, and I can tell you that as I write this I feel about as close to death as in either of those cases. It is GHASTLY - never again! I have these implants in me until November (8 months) and I shan't be touching another drop. Jesus, what a terrible experience. Never again. Do not test this drug.
That’s horrible she could kill you .
I’ve taken 25mg of Antabuse for 1 week and I’ve been off for over 100 hours now. Having a budweiser and I’m about 22 minutes into the beer... nothing yet. Will keep you posted.
