I wouldn't bet on it. I've waited nearly a year and was only made a priority in November after the new surgeon looked at my scan results. If yours is new then the 18 week rule should apply. I complained to PALS last time but it didn't speed anything up and only seemed to get their backs up.
Keep onto them though. The reason for my long wait last time was because my file had been lost and that was after my scan!
Thanks for that Lesley,
You have made me feel a bit better! I really hope they get you sorted ASAP - you have suffered long enough!
Let you know Friday night what I find out!
Hi Glennie.
I'm in the U.S., but my experience with surgery and hospitals is that different locations and facilities handle things differently and some are more efficient than others.
It seems to me that they will have to schedule you pretty soon, because they need the pre-op assessment to be as current as possible before the procedure. That said, in your position, I would be annoyed, too.
I'm scheduled for a similar procedure in a couple of weeks. Though they will call me on that day with an exact time to arrive at the hospital, I know I'm going to wait for hours (in an uncomfortable chair) until I'm actually admitted. That's the way all hospitals work.... hurry up and wait. I'm bringing a newspaper, a couple of books and my phone so I can play games while sitting around. Good luck with it all.
Thanks Lee,
I think I am tired of waiting to feel better. I haven't felt so great the last few days and I'm beginning to think that my meds are not working too good. Just compounds the problems! I'll get there eventually.
The secretary phoned with a surgery date today - Fri 13th Feb which I assume is a cancellation by someone who is superstitious. I don't care though. At least I know when it will be now.
That's great news Lesley!
I wouldn't care if that was my date either! I'll tell you how I get on with my call on Friday.
Hope you get sorted this time!
Much better than a last minute cancellation too as it lets me get prepared. I have a horse and organising care for him is harder than finding it for a toddler haha. Plus, if few people want surgery on that day, I'll get plenty of care haha
One of my work colleages has a horse - and they do take a lot of looking after! They are lovely creatures though. I'm sure you'll get it sorted - I've just got cats - lot smaller - you can't ride them - but they give lots of loves - unless they are in a bitey mood :-)
I like your thinking with the surgery - I don't think you'll be turned away on that day somehow!
Hi Lesley,
Ok so I got a date today that was changed 3 hours later - luckily I didn't tell anyone at work - and just as well, I'll do this when the confirmation letter comes through. Anyhow - I'll be almost a month after you! 10th March - so a few weeks to go - but there's light at the end of the tunnel! Was a bit disappointed at first - but this date actually works out really well for my work - and for the fact Easter will fall when I am getting better - and it will give me a few more days to re-couperate!
Brilliant. At least we both can see the light at the end of the tunnel now! My previous repair dates were organised via a call from the secretary asking if I would go in a few days later. This was good as there was less time to think about thngs but at least we can have everything prepared this time...........house sparkling (well, maybe), the fridge and freezer stocked up etc.
I hope it all goes well for you.
Hey hope all goes well for you too! I'm looking forward to not lugging heavy shopping bags and ditching the tablets that I've had to take for the past few years! Let me know how you get on! :-)
Hi Lesley,
Not long now! Just thought I'd send you a good luck message just in case I forget! I've tried not being on the forum so much - as I have found myself getting upset at nothing! I'm still waiting for my confirmation letter 2 weeks after getting my date! I hope they don't change it again - hubby got time off work and I have pre-warned my work too! All the best to you - stay well and get better x
Thanks but I' sorry to hear of your news.
It's all just so frustrating isn't it? I actually cried when speakibng to my surgeon's secretary once. I felt really silly but had psyched myself up for the surgery happening just before xmas. I did my shopping early and everything, so I was all prepared. I thought they would just phone me with a last minute slot as that is what has always happened in the past but, of course, they didn't. It's like your life is on.hold. xx
Hi, Finally had my surgery and had to stay in overnight They found another hernia and so 2 were repaired with 3 layers of mesh. Seemingly, they also had to sort out bits of my insides and put them back where they should be too
.
Anyhow I'm very swollen and sore but hopefully this will be the end of it. Even the top of one of my thighs is swollen! Apparently, this is because they had to cut tissue that supplies the nerve ends to it. Sometimes you just wish you'd never asked the question haha
Hi Lesley!
Good to hear from you - fantastic it is done and over - now it just lots of rest and re-couperation and day time TV
. Sounds like them hernia's have been bullies - pushing other bits of your anatomy out of the way! It's amazing how these surgeons can sort you out!
Not long now for me either!
Take care you!!!
Hi
I had the pre-op test without a date for surgery. Had surgery almost 3 months later, only coz there was a cancellation. Blood test are good for 3 months but MRSA swabs had them done again on the day of surgery.
I know how frustrating it is not knowing.
Best of luck
Yes, I had my pre-op at the same time as my first appointment with the surgeon - or delegated surgeon, not the one going to do the op. Then I had to wait 8 months for the operation. I was given about 3 weeks notice, and then it was postponed twice. It was then the worst time of year for me, spring when everything has to be done, and I normally put up displays at shows and do heavy gardening work. I never had a proper consultation wih anyone who really knew anything about me, so had to find out information other ways, and make my own decisions! The open inguinal hernia operation went really well, and I was out immediately after. No problems, and I felt pretty good. However the healing process has been much slower than what I thought. I know I have to be patient, but 2 months on the incision is still not properly healed. I am back to my normal relatively acive life, but still have to be really careful, but I am getting there, but I am beginning to worry about whether I will be ready for some surfing on holiday in September, but I think I will. Age is against me, but I guess it will heal properly in its own good time.
