Have had right abdominal pain and pain under ribs on left and right side.

This has been going on for months and seems worse after eating. Dr. Did abdominal ultrasound, abdominal CT, blood work, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and all negative. She is chalking it up to stress/anxiety causing IBS. The pain is most definitely real and she suggests I see a psychiatrist for anxiety. So frustrated and not sure if her diagnosis.

I wouldn't see a psychiatrist. Do you have stress or anxiety? If you do, try distraction techniques such as light exercise and a hobby instead. Try a food diary if you have pain after eating. See a different doctor who understands IBS.  Ask for an antispasmodic if you have been given a firm diagnosis of IBS.   Ask about the Low Fodmap diet. If all your tests are negative, IBS can be diagnosed.

I have stress related IBS and I try to avoid things that trigger my anxiety which in turn brings on IBS.

Hi Pippa,

thanks for the response. I totally agree. I have stress and that doesn't help my IBS any. It felt like the Dr just wanted to slough it off and suggest psychiatric help. Bogus answer on her part. The colonoscopy gave me anxiety but that's hardly something that needs psychiatric help. Thanks for the suggestions. It sucks living with a condition that most people don't understand. Today is my first day on low fodmap diet. I hope it helps. All the best in your health.

My dad has never been pleasant when it comes to other people being unwell because he has always been very fit. So I have to hide my IBS symptoms when they flare up and pretend everything is normal which is definitely not good for IBS.
