Hi fellow hippies
I'm 5wks post op today from left THR. Doing well walking with 2 sticks. Went for a long walk on an old railway line so flat terrain for 4 miles. Normally doing about a mile a day. Now I feel like I've been hit by a bus. I ache from shoulders and neck into my back, hip feels fine but thigh feels heavy. I wonder if I'm coming down with something as it feels kind of fluey or if that was just too much for my body?
Taken painkillers and sitting with my feet up now resting. :-)
Hi Tracey. I had a simiiar experience and definitely did too much. Took the next day off and rested apart from the given exercises. I am now 6 weeks and today my body is complaining again as I went to see the bluebells and now have the heavy thigh.
You will probably be fine tomorrow as will I - hope so anyway
Sleep well
Hi Tracy! Well done you! But I think you need to chill! Otherwise you might damage yourself! Take a day at a time! Each day you will become stronger! Regards Amanda
I would say you probably have just overdone it. I know at 5 weeks my body soon let me know when I needed a recovery day. We're not programmed to take it easy but after this op that is exactly what we should do.
My Physio wasn't really interested in distance when I walked, more how long I was walking for.
I'm sure you'll feel better after a restful day but remember to wander around occasionally to prevent stiffening up. Bound to ache a bit so take pills.
Best wishes

LOL on the fluey thing ... I feel that way too by the end of the day ... so true that we are not used to do nothing for hours on end -feel like I am a sloth or something - I live alone so no busy bodies around me - just my worst critic, me .... I think that the problem is that while I am laying on the couch I don;t feel pain - maybe a tightness .. but oh dear, when I try to get up !!!!
you are doing great - one step at a time, one day at a time and taking your time ! have a great day
Hi, I was doing about 3 miles a day in 2 goes at around 5-6 week mark and was informed excellent BUT. be careful not to do too much too soon... so yes do the distance but when body aches and protests.. time to take a day off....and chill out... After the walks in early days I always rested on bed afterwards..... I live in country so was walking cross fields, not exactly ideal but far more pleasnt than pounding the pavements, but would NOT tackle the stiles!!
Thanks everyone. Feeling ok today so must have just not been ready for the increase in distance. It's so difficult to get the balance right! Don't want to do.too much but also don't want to do too little!
Walk until your body tells you to stop, then stop. You have plenty of time to recover. They sawed off the top of your thigh bone and jammed a stick in there, that has to knit iself in. Around week 4-5 you will experience a very rapid recovery. Take it easy.
