Have I got Blepharitis?

I recently paid to see an opthalmologist rather than wait six months or more, and he diagnosed blepharitis.   Since then I have been reading up on it, but I don't seem to have many of the classic symptoms.   My eye lids are fine, no redness and I never have "crust" round my eyes.   I continually have the feeling that there is a large rock in each eye, not pain, but they can ache.   The opthalmologist told me to use hot flannel, bicarb of soda to bathe the lids, and also to try flaxseed, all of which I'm doing.   If after six weeks I have no improvement, he will prescribe antibiotics for me to take for a period of six weeks - six weeks ???   That sounds rather alarming.   Anybody out there got similar syptoms to me and been told they have blepharitis?

Thanks, Madeleine

Hi , I'd say we have about the same degree of the condition . For the main mine is bad dryness overnight so i use the lacrilube gel before bed . In the morning I then use the Bleph liquid to " melt" away the oily stickiness from my eyelashes . I use a cotton bud tip to very gently go over the glands being carefull not to touch the eyeball . I presume that this " melts " or loosens the blockage in the glands . I use the MRD eyebag and gently massage the areas to help the flow and generally I'm ok for the rest of the day and if not I pop in some eye drops and use the bag again . However sometimes dry out too much overnight and i wake with a near total bloodshot eye which may last 3 days . At times like this it feels as though there's a stone under my eyelid .

Have you looked for any of Lynda's messages , she seems to have it beat .

David

Hummmm not what my doctors said but they recommend fish oil capsules 2x a day. I have been doing everything they said any right now my blepharitis is under control but I can tell it's not gone.

also got rid of feather quilt and bought new down alternative quilt. I think that helped a lot. What my doctor said made sense..when does it flare up? For me I'd wake up with insane swollen eyelids they were also red. So she said what do you sleep on and that led to possible allergies . It made sense .

also I try never to to touch my eyes any More without washing hands first.

Can't believe that your doctor didn't agree with my comments regarding mineral depletion due to illness and how long it would take your system to replace these through healthy eating only ! Check his or her  qualifications ! Try google and see what they say upon the subject . I would be interested to know how long you will keep up with the fish oil supplements . I went for the liquid version ( disgusting but you get used to it ) but stopped after a week after reading about toxic poisoning .

Hi David,

you need pure fish oil Lamberts is  a good one ,fish oil has helpt my eyes.

what did you write about mineral depletion?

Hi , I'd been mentioning to another blog user that a tonic may help her strengthen her immune system as she's been taking many different prescribed medications and could well be , and understandably ,be  run down .

Mineral depletion can be behind many problems , but i know for a fact that if your system has been trying to fight infections then minerals are used up very quickly . The point i was trying to make was that that we all need to look to "start at first base " and ensure our body is up to the challenge of trying to sort itself out . Fish oils are great if you are sure that your body needs them but if not one could be "over supplementing " and starting a new problem .

My fish oil states no Mercury etc it costs some but doable

Hi David

what tonic ( minerals ) did you recomend I am now having problem with a gum infection, since December I have had 2 root channels  treatment on the tooth am still under treatment, have  a small  gum Abcess  by the tooth they put me on antibiotics last week some improvement but still have problem.

I know this is an eye blog but need to boost system to fight the infections of both.

I take fish oil Vit c b ect .

thanks Vanessa.

Hi , there are many tonic/pick me ups out there from as little as approx £3.50 for those getting over an illness or those wanting to get their depleted mineral levels back to normal . I've used Minadex and Boots  shelved products in the past .

Like yourself i believe that the body's own immune system must be maintained in good order to help ward off infections of all sorts .

Thanks,I will check the out.
