Have i got Diabetes ?

In 2007 i had open heart surgery, from this i was informed  by the surgeon that it would be most likly later i would be susceptible to diabetes, i have had regular fastning blood tests am told by the doctor all is ok, with exceptions to colesteral a little high.

A few days ago whilst in another surgery i picked up a Diabetes information leaflet., on reading the symptoms i became a little concerned, as 6 out 7 of the symptoms i was suffering with.

1 Sweating Heavly VERY MUCH.

2 Feeling Anxious. YES.

3 Trembling and Shaking YES

4 Tinling of the lips NO.

5 Hunger, A LITTLE..

6 Going Pale YES

7 Palpitations YES

Is this enough to be concerned. If so where would i go for more tests.

Any information would be grateful.

According to Diabetes UK the signs and symptoms are

increased thirst.

extreme tiredness.

unexplained weight loss.

genital itching or regular episodes of thrush.

slow healing of cuts and wounds.

blurred vision.

So I cannot see that leaflet as in anyway accurate. If you are concerned take the leaflet to your own Dr and ask them about it.

Thanks for the reply, I do have times of blurred vision sometimes as if i am crossed eyed.

The information leaflet came from "Understanding Diabetes", TREND, MSD . Also has details of the web site  www.diabetes.org.uk

Seems very strange that the leaflet makes its way into a surgury.

With symptoms like your saying you really should go and see your Doctor for him to do the correct tests for your symptoms. Please don't assume you have diabetes just because your surgeon said you May .

I was just diagnosed as having type 2 diabetes about 3 months ago. I was loosing weight rapidly, was extremely thirsty, was going for a pee every hour day and night was very tired.

The leaflet you picked up seems to be the symptoms of a diabetic person having a "hypo" when the blood sugar levels are falling too low.

being as you have a history of heart problems, I would think you should see a doctor with the symptoms you describe. Good luck

Hi Anthony,

While approving your post above with the url in and reading cycletourleader's comment I found this http://www.trend-uk.org/documents/Hypo%20leaflet%20V4.pdf which is what I assumed you read? As per last comment this is a leaflet on "hypo" in diabetes.

There is a diabetes health hub here https://patient.info/diabetes that may help.

As others have said these symptoms aren't a sign that you have developed diabetes.  If you're having regualr blood tests you can rely on those to tell you whether you've developed the condition.

If the anxiety and sweating continue over a period of time they may indicate an anxiety condition, in which case your first port of call should be your GP.

Hi. I have diabetes from the age of 7 and now i am 21yo. When my blood sugar rises i have a metal taste in my mouth, sometimes tummy aches, thirst, getting angry for no reason and go too the loo a lot. Go to your GP and ask for your blood sugar level to be checked. Also blured vision and sensibility to light i forgot to mention. Hope this helps you

If you really are worried, I'd suggest going to your GP for a finger prick test, It's very simple and he would probably be able to say there and then if there is anything to be  concerned about. My husband has been a diabetic for 33 years, and I know that the amout of sugar in your blood will tell you immediately.
