Hi Everyone
Well i am 6 weeks tomorrow and i see surgeon on Thursday. I am so amazed at how well i have recovered up until today. Not sure if i have overdone it. I was sitting at desk for a few hours working and when i got up i was so stiff i could hardly move, i was like what the heck is going on. my back of thighs and glutes are so stiff. Once i get moving it eases up but then i sit down and they stiffen up again. I swear i need to get in the water and strengthen these muscles well i hope thats what it is.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Even 4 months post op if I sit more than 2 hours yes I am stiff and ache but soon wears off after a little while, just don't sit for so long, just do a couple of hours it will get better
I am 3 1/2 months post op and still get a bit stiff if I sit at the desk for too long. It's not too bad now, but was worse around your stage of recovery. I have a rocking footstool under my desk on the op side. I can lay my knee across it or put my foot on it if I want to change position a bit for a while. It's back towards the wall, so I can stretch my leg out to put my foot up. I also make sure I get up regularly and walk somewhere, even if it's just to the kitchen or bathroom and back. I take a walk to the shops and back every day just to have a longer break.
I also have a thin pillow on my chair, which is not as ergonomic as it used to be.
Hey Karen
I think this sounds like an expected phase to go through. I too get stiff legs and hips after sitting and it take a few steps to loosen things up. More so if I have had an active morning and then sit down for a rest...
Yes thats it thats what is happening to me.
Good to know i am not alone.
phew it scared me a bit because i have done so well and today is first day where i felt like i had gone backwards. I really think my muscles need to move more in order to get stronger and getting in the water will help strengthen without the weightbearing. If all goes well with surgeon i will be heading to the pool this weekend.
For now i am trying to stretch and hope it passes soon 😀
Thank you belle
I will make it a point not to sit to long without moving and fingers crossed surgeon will say okay to getting in pool i think that will help alot.
Karen
Thank you Marilyn
I will try to keep moving and not sit for long periods
All about gaining back the strength in these muscles that they had to cut i think and that takes time right 😀

I saw my private physio yesterday, and she says that Kate's Toe Tapping Technique is absolutely the right way to go - it stimulates the blood flow that is restricted when we sit down, so I suspect you have some of the same.
The physio said that 'walking heels & toes on the spot' is good when you stand as it gets the whole leg involved in waking up again.

Thanks Graham
i will give it ago tomorrow 😀

Hi Karen,
I am chiming in with fellow hippies here - After a couple of hours at the senior home, pouring coffee, tea, pushing wheelchairs and walking with people with walkers I feel so stiff that it almost hurts - I am taking my time etc. - Arghh
gets me so frustrated some times -
big warm hug

Getting into warm water sounds great. My wife is trying to get me to do aqua aerobics and aqua zumba. Trouble is, I can not even clap in time (as I do not have a sense of rhythym *imagine Mr Bean*) let alone do aerobics....
