Have no emotions 16 weeks on citalopram

I really really hope someone has heard of or been through this themselves and have any advice! I’ve been on citalopram 10,20,30mg over the course of about 16 weeks and I was put on because of overwhelming panic and anxiety. The stage I am at now is that fortunately my anxiety and panic is at a better level but my personality feelings etc are totally shot and what I mean by that is that I don’t feel ANYTHING! I don’t feel happy sad depressed excited absolutely nothing and I’m sick of it to the point where I cry in front of family members about it and my mam and girlfriend cry because they just want me to feel normal again, I’ve cut from 30 mg to 20 and don’t feel too bad but I need some advice and reassurence I feel so lonely and feel as if I’m the only person in the world that feels this! Should I try an snri because they focus on the dopamine side of things? Or just come off all together and hope I regain feelings? And I have a feeling g people are going to say depression but that won’t help me this doesn’t feel like depression at all this is nothing I have ever experienced. Hope someone can help jamie

I have also showed bad traits which are really out of character for me, I’m normally really good with money but for some reason I’ve been reclessley gambling to the point where I’m looking at going into debt And I’m only 24 and ment to be saving up to get a house with my girlfriend. This has all happened since I’ve been on citalopram

citalopram is a horrible anxiety drug. ask your doctor if you can try another.

Thanks for the reply Darren mate it has helped with my panic but it has totally changed me but I’m scared of it happening again, was looking at a pill called wellbrutin but not sure

I would take anxiety back to just feel anything again it’s soul destroying

Is there anything really stressing u in life at the moment? Other than your anxiety depression symptoms?

Alesha thanks for the reply and Just my gambling but that has been really badly brought on by the citalopram and that’s not me being in denial either it’s like I find comfort in trying to get a buzz of things where I once didint need that because my body and mind produced natural highs once upon a time, I don’t get low either! The only real stress is my inability to feel nothing at all, my life on the outside is fine I have a beautiful girlfriend we aren’t in any financial problems(yet) go on holidays etc and by the way I was in holiday a couple of weeks ago felt absolutely nothing towards it but normally I’d be buzzing to be away in the sun it’s soul destroying I could be wrong but maybes I need a dopamine uplift rather than a seretonin? I can’t explain it properly I don’t feel depressed I feel nothing and that’s all I can say

There’s got to be someone that has heard of this? I just want some advice and guidance

.

Hi there - 16 weeks is still a little early in terms of side effects. I would give it a few more weeks and see how you get on - it’s probably good you went down to 20mg, I’m surprised they suggested you go straight up to 30 without trying 20 first. See how you feel in a few weeks (I know that seems hard) and ask your family to be patient with you, if you still don’t feel right speak to your doctor about switching to another AD. Good luck

Hey there ,

Cheer up . My own experience is that I am taking the newer vision of citalopram which is escitalopram (lexapro). It takes up to 8 weeks for me to feel the WOW effect. Before this, I was just like you . Don’t fall into the vicious cycle of a panic attack.

i know this is going to sound a bit wired but id rather have no emotion that have servere anxiety all the time. it would be a nice break from it all even if it was just for one day.

im a very empathetic person but id swap just to have no anxiety disorder

In your opinion is escitalopram good for anxiety?  Dr tried sertraline and my anxiety rocketed so is yours better for that? I only have diazepam and cant sleep well and get agitated especially on waking in morning after a bad night sleep.

Hello magmag how are you feeling on the escitalopram? I’m gonna start it soon I’ve just been scared of the side effects

yes as escitalopram is the very last SSRI that has been invented before the SSRN is out. everyone reacts differently to different anti-depressant . you really should push your dr to try the one thet suits you.

Hey Chelsea:

The side effects are very mild. i am experiencing the WOW effect now from escitalopram. it kicks in with a positive effect after 3-4 weeks later . now i am on my 7th week now. Now my anxiety is totally under control . good luck !

my dr tried one from each group, i think it was sertraline ssri that was the worst. nothing seems to be tolerable for me so far
