Today its exactly 12 weeks since my THR and I feel great. Went for a pedicure to celebrate. I'm walking lots, still doing exercises both on the bed and standing, I'm driving my manual car and went back to work part time last week, everything is almost back to normal although my operated leg doesn't yet have the same mobility as my other leg. I still use 1 stick when I'm out walking. More for confidence as I could probably do without it and I'm almost off the codeine. I'm hoping to get back on my horse in a couple of weeks time.
Are there any precautions I should still be aware of? Because I'm pain free the majority of time I tend to forget my new hip but I don't want to go any damage as things have gone so well.
Any advice please now I've got to the 12 weeks milestone.
Congratulations!! I'm exactly five weeks behind you (7 weeks post op today). Off all pain meds too!! I'm driving, walking one of our dogs & working on my golf swing in addition to my home PT exercises. I think keep doing what you're doing. You body will tell you if you overdue (like I did trying to move paving blocks around our backyard over the weekend! 😉. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations! It sounds as though everything has gone well for you
Keep up with the exercise. Moderation is the key. I'm surprised that you are still on the codeine. I'm just jealous My doctor wouldn't prescribe pain meds after 12 weeks. At 12 weeks the tissue surrounding your hips will be completely healed. You should no longer have limitations. Just listen to your body and stay active.
I went back to riding my tennwalker . He had a rocking stair easy gait.
i was cleared by my surgeon after 6 months slowly regained enough muscle back to post and ride again.
When riding ding a horse we use every muscle in our bodies. Even when just in a walk. Trust your instincts when your ready take it slow. Also be sure you horse is quiet and good ground manners as well as trail.
