Having a bath

Does anyone know when you can start having a bath I'm fed up with showers now lol thank you chrissy xx

I had a bath as soon as I got out of hospital as I don’t have a shower.

Not ideal but no alternative.

I was told that the wound needs to be kept dry..

Showers until 6 wks as when we bath we are swimming in our own germs and our wounds could get infected.a

Also stitches become soggy before they have chance to heal. Good lyckx

I bathed straight away - couple of inches of water, nothing in the bath water. The hospital where I had my surgery encouraged it.

I ask dr when I was a week out she said it was fine. I had rectocele repair only

Each hospital is different Mandir aren't they.

I didn't like the thought of bathing in my own germs with open wounds even if it's in vagina😏

You must listen to your own surgeon hunxx

Nothing was said tho lol I'll speak to my physio woman Thursday thank you xx xx

Since posting on here over 2 years ago we were lucky to have matron who was a urogyna nurse.

She always told ladies to avoid baths until all stitches dissolved. They become soggy and can stop healing. She was an angel on here, such fab advice for us all.

Shame she was abused by some nasty people on the forum. I

Can you contact your consultant.. Not sure if your physiotherapist will know what sutures were used and how strong they are.

Good luck lovex

I'll see if I can hun thank you and that's such a shame there us some nasty people about thanks for your advice tho hun xxxx

Hi Chrissy,

My doctor said 6 weeks for the bath but I am so prone to bladder infections from bathing that I am still afraid at 12 weeks to get in the bath water. Our swimming pool opened and I am even a little anxious to go into the swimming pool. This surgery is almost as hard on the mind as it is on the body!

You probably need to check with your own doctor since it seems we all have received different advice on time for bathing.  If you do get into the bath just be very careful lifting your leg up over the edge.  My doctor cautioned me about stairs in terms of lifting my legs and bending over which both are involved with the bath tub😄Take care !
