Having clips out on Monday

Hi all, i'm due to have my clips out on Monday, all 36 of them. What does it feel like having them out, any pain? Does the scar stay uncovered or is a dressing applied again?

Mike

Hi , show off , I only had 26 ha ha !

removal was fine , some of them pinched a little bit that's all .

Nurse put a light dressing on told me I could take it off next day but K kept it on for a few more for reassurance really .

good luck

Hello fellow hippy in the silly hours. Been awake since 1. Sorry I did have clips just one long continuous stitch. It tickled a bit on removal. Funny how each surgeon has their own little quirks. I had to have another 24 hour dressing after removal and then glory be allowed to shower. I was 5 weeks yesterday so almost there. On 8 week recovery due to fragile bone

Well think I will try and get some more of that elusive thing called sleep

Good luck

Hi, I had a whole load of them, when taken out replaced by a long zip to prevent leg falling off !!!. ...  I had 26, removed at home in standing position. Just took about 10 mins and hardly felt a thing. Once completed the nurse quickly cleaned the wound then used a freezing cold skin protect spray on the area....that stung a bit, then have had it uncovered ever since. Informed not to use scented soap but just water for three days, touch wood now 7 weeks on going well.

I agonized over this for all the time before they were removed.  I am a total woose when it comes to things like that.  The clips came out very well with only a pinch or two ( eventhough I wore a shirt with a big crab on it that said No Pinching Allowed).  I was quite suprised how easy they came out.  Take heart and realize that you are on the mend.  My incision was fine and no further dressing needed.  I was however, advised to put on an antibiotic cream like polysporin for a few day.  Then after that a vitamin E cream to lessen the look of the scar.  My scar was very narrow and does not look too ugly  at least so far.

Thank you all for your comments. I hope mine come out easy enough. Then I might be able to give it a good rub as the last few days underneath the scar has been itching a bit. My Wife says that's a sign of healing :-) I will be using Arnica gel on the scar once the clips are out as my dear Mother in law swears by it. (She has had 3 knee replacements).

Kind regards

Mike

Hi

They come out easily......I had mine out standinbg up.They were taken out in 2 lots.

First lot she took out and then decided she was going to leave the rest for anoher few days. She wondered had it completely healed.   Back she came 2 days later and took the rest out and it was fine

I would check with her about the arnica as she take them out.

I think its fantastic stuff and use it frequently but if you remember its one of the things that you mustn't put on a open wound {not matter how litte it is open} You dont want to undo the good work that has been done

I used bio oil to try and get rid of the scar {or to at least minimise it LOL}

Dont get me wrong....I'm not against arnica, as I look I can see 2 dikfferent lots,  one for bruising etc and the other one is for muscle ache and arthritis.

Good Luck

It doesnt hurt at all

all true  - some pinching that actually felt good ! a band-aid was put on it per my request but removed one day later -

I too had 36. It was fine. A couple were a bit harder to remove so hurt a little. I had steri strip as the two that were awkward bled a little but scar was fine. Good luck. It's another step forward x

Ha ha thanks for making me laugh this morning 😄
