So about a month ago I had my first panic attack. Had some physical symptoms, went to my doctor and nothing seemed to be wrong. the physical symptoms sort of went away with time. I was a bit stressed about the whole thing and I think that's what caused my tinnitus. I was getting used to it and then my whole family went on a boat trip. This is when things started getting much worse. I had nausea from being on the boat and I was stressed about it that when we got home I ended up having another panic attack. So I went to my doctor about 3 times that one week and ended up in hospital twice. Had loads of tests in hospital (Blood pressure, MRI, ecg, blood tests). After that I was feeling a bit better. My doctor diagnosed my anxiety and then it started getting worse again. Now I have one or two panic attacks everyday. I can't sleep as I developed a fear of dying in my sleep and I'm constantly dizzy. I'm on fluoxetine by the way. I'm just not sure what to do now. Please any advice would be apprectiated. I feel as though I would only be able to sleep properly in hospital where I'm being monitored. Thanks for reading
This is all typical anxiety its how I first started of you will learn how to controll them. before going sleep try sleeping with the tv on or watch something on your phone this helps me doze off to sleep
Ross08472.....I have had the same symptoms for years. I have been on Xanax, which helped but I did not want to get hooked so I stopped. When I feel anxiety coming on I take a warm shower and it helps sometimes. I also drive to the hospital or urgent care and wait outside in my car until my anxiety subsides. I know this things are redundant but hey, if it helps,do it.
Hi Ross fear of death is very common when you suffer ànxiety. You really need to go back to your doctor and get referred to a therapist to help to manage your anxiety. You perhaps also need to change medication as it doesn't seem to be having a good effect on you.Another antidepressant may be more effective.Go to You Tube and search for methods to help prevent panic attacks and practice several times a day.Try meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques on YouTube .Keep doing them as often as you can. They will help if you continue practicing them.Try not to isolate yourself and keep your mind distracted as much as possible. The main advice l can give you is make sure you get therapy.
How did you controll not knowing were u are but you actually know were you are
Hi Ross,
This is all very typical of anxiety that has just become severe. I also understand the fear of going to sleep. This has literally been a problem for me for years. I think you might need to give your body some time to adjust to the medication (it can take up to 30 days for it to be effective) as well. See if you can get an appointment to see a therapist as well. They have numerous ideas to help you train your body to stop having the panic attacks. It won't happen overnight, but you will start to see the good days outnumbering the bad. Things that have helped me in the past, relaxation exercises, reading a book at bedtime, essential oils (diffuse them, use them in the shower), anxiety workbooks (get them from amazon or a bookstore), therapy, watching tv, etc.
thanks for replying, would you ask for a doctor's recomendation for a therapist? I'm just not sure where to go.
Thanks for replying! How do you normally deal with actually falling asleep? I try to relax before going to bed but as soon as it's dark and I close my eyes I start hearing my heart pounding which really freaks me out.
thanks for replying! My doctor actually prescribed me some xanax but I only am supposed to take it if I have an intense panic attack, do you think that would be a bad idea? How addictive is it as a substance, would taking it once potentially lead to addiction?
Ask your doctor to refer you to a therapist. He should be able to do that for you.
