Having second hip done

Hi all you hippies first and second

I have to have my second hip done sometime I've just been referred back to the specialist at his request.

My question is, do I know too much this time round? I feel more aprehensive than I did last time is it because I know what to expect?

It won't stop me having it done as it is better than the pain and I don't want that to get as bad as the first one did...... Just wondering cos I have nothing better to do lol. Have made cheese and fruit scones today and done the shopping... feel abit tired too as I have an ear infection and it's giving me a headache. Love to everyone Gill xxx

Hi Gill, I too have got to have my second hip done my consultant is going to discuss this with me at my 6 week appointment.

I was so nervous having my first one done but everything has been so positive for me so far I just want the other doing and to be pain free.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

I felt I was prepared going in to have the second one done though being a wake for the epidural and operation was scary at first - I had general the first time. The hardest thing was comparing it to the first  one afterwards although I had my first done years ago. So when I didn't recover as quickly I got worried. However although recovery has been slower the benefit is there and its great. I don't regret it at all and being able to walk pain free is brilliant in spite of other niggles I have.

Dear Gillcat

Yes you will feel more aprehensive this time round. I know I am.

I am really scared because I know what is coming I have already told my surgeon this on Thursday. But I have a hard time with hospitals any way.

It won't stop me having mine done either because I want off allt hese drugs. they are causeing me more problems than I want. and I want this excrusiating endless pain gone. I just don't want to go through what I have gone through this time gain.

i hope you have something for your ear ache. I hope you have something to get rid of the infection.

((( Hugs ))) to you Gillat x

Hi Gill

Ive had both hips done 2nd operation i was quite calm until the day but everyone on this forum gave me loads of support. Knowing what will happen can prepare you for all the little things you didn't know the first time round for me it was grabbers i had one but soon realised i needed more ie upstairs.

Understanding the emotional rollercoaster you are on,being kind to yourself and resting when body tells you, first time round you often dont understand.

sending you lots of hugs and all best for your forecoming operation

Hi Gill ...

We are in good company, aren't we ... Same with me - first I have to move (next week this time I will be in my new temporary home) and the up to the 2nd THR ..

Like you I am wondering if it is a good thing to know so much more ,,, I am also worried if my operated right leg will be strong enough to do the work after left hip is done ... good thing we have each other -

sorry to hear about your ear infection ....

oh, scones !!! The last ones I had was in Los Angeles in the office where I was working when Air New Zealand sales reps came to visit with a variety of home baked scones ....what a treat and what a difference with store bought ones ...

well, maybe in my dreams !!

good night

warm hug

Hi hun how's the old ear hole, any way back to the hip op I am on the waiting list for the 2nd one too, hopefully it will be in september/october I will ring you tomorrow love lyn

ok hun I'll be here xx

Hi Gill

With your positive attitude Gill, you will be good to go!

I think the answer is - make more cake to take your mind off things!

Hope your ear infection clears up soon - nasty pain is ear pain!

Have a good day!

Kind wishes Linda

Dear Gill,

I think the best is not to think about it too much...We know what it is like, it's a necessary op and it will change our life...Leave the rest to the surgeon, nurses and doctors. Sorry about your ear infection, I hope you 'll feel better soon.

Hi Gill,

It's funny, but after my op I thought that I wouldn't feel as bad about having a second (which is bound to be on the cards at some stage!). But, like you, maybe I know too much. Some of it wasn't as bad - the actual op was one!

Sorry you've got an ear infection. They're miserable. Hope you've got a bucketful of antibiotics!?

Well done with the scones. I decided to make a batch of bread - cheers me up on this soggy Sunday when I can't be outside.

Here's hoping for a sunnier week to come.

Anna are you feeling better? I really hope so, you sound a bit perkier. I am trying to take it easy a bit as we have Alans daughter hubby and little one coming to stay for a few days this week all culminating in his sisters 50th wedding celebrations. So by the end of the week I know I will be shattered. But in the end it will all be worth it lol. xx

Hi Gill,

Yes, im feeling perkier ! But progress is now slow. I have spinal probs which stops me being as active as I want to be. But I plod on! And at least the horrible hip pain has gone.

I do hope you have a good time with your visitors. It'll be lovely, especially if we can have summer back again. Yes, itll be tiring but I'm sure you'll enjoy the company. Then you can have a big rest?!

You take care.

Love to you both, Anna x
