Anyone have this problem years after implants? Seems to be left eye. The right eye
had to have laser done after 3 months, then ended up with detached retina & surgery.
So that eye is not what it should be. I'm worried about the haziness in the left eye.
Can't see an eye specialist until mid Jan. 2018. A bit worried.
It may be that you have PCO and need a YAG (laser procedure) to clear it. Is that same procedure you had 3 months after cataract surgery?
Yes, I have this problem exactly two years after cataract surgery on both eyes. My eyesight is blurred, I'm finding it hard to read any small print & also newspaprers. My optician referred me to the Ophthamology Dept. at the hospital in August & I've finally got an appointment the second wee in November for Laser treatment. My optician has told me this should be successful.

May I ask how old you are? The reason I am asking is retina detachment is usually associated with younger patients undergoing cataract surgery whose vitreous has not drained yet.
Hope things work out for you. My moms retina detached after YAG but there is no correlation of YAG with detached retina. Just younger age and detached retina.

Hi, I'm 80, this happened about 2 years ago. Had cataract surgery in left eye, took 15 min.
A month later had right eye done, took 40 min. because surgeon punctured the sack ( can't remember
all the technical names) anyway, the lens couldn't be inserted into the proper place, so he had to put a
2 piece lens in, but not in, it's sitting on the outside of the pocket he punctured. Then maybe 3 months or so later developed PCO, had Yag laser, then shortly after, retinal detachment & surgery.
But vision is not at all what I thought it would be., So now my left eye is getting hazy, wondering if maybe
PCO in that eye. If so, I don't want to think about getting the yag laser. I'm thinking, retinal detachment
in this eye also. I couldn't handle it if turned out like the right eye. That's scary, I wouldn't be able to do my craft ( card making) Can't see specialist until mid Jan. So sitting on pins & needles, wondering if something
bad is happening.

Yes, same procedure, shortly after that, retinal detachment & surgery.
Didn't turn out the way I expected. So hoping I don't have PCO in the left eye.
But thinking once the lens is put in, vision shouldn't get worse, because it's an artificial
lens now. So maybe it is PCO. I'm really dreading that prospect.

I am sorry you have to go through this. I am not a doctor so this is just my opinion. I believe your retinal issues were because the surgeon punctured the capsule and would have needed virectomy.
While there is no correlation of YAG to retina detachment. My mom's detachment occurred after the YAG.
Thank you, Helen,, I will let you know just hoping that they won't cancel again & the surgeon does give me the treatment on the day. Even reading anything on the computer is gettihg more difficult & very difficult to read a book unless it's large print.

I also seen a specialist today ( couldn't wait until mid Jan.) Checked my
eyes thoroughly, ultrasound & the works. So I am developing PCO in the left
eye. That's why things are hazy. Says it might progress slowly (I'm hoping)
So I will keep my Jan. appt. to see where I go from there. I sure hate the thought of
having the Yag. He said there's no guarantee that the same won't happen as the
right eye. Also being diabetic doesn't help.

Those are the two words I couldn't remember, Capsule & Virectomy.
Seen a different eye specialist this morning, got the full exam and
I am developing PCO. So now have to wait to see if it progresses fast
or hopefully will be slow. I hate the thought of having the Yag done.
Just might end up with detached Retina in left eye also. Dr said there was
a small chance of it happening. Nothing is 100% safe. Now it's a waiting game.

Yesterday I had laser treatment on both eyes & today my eyesight has improved I can read a newspaper & see the computer. It's such a relief as I was getting very low wondering if I might lose my sight as it was getting much worse day by day. The surgeon explained that it was PCO & I was unlucky as it only happened to 5% of people after cataracts & he has assured me that it won't occur again. Just hope he is right!!

Hi Liza - PCO occurs in more than just 5% of cataract patients. My surgeon told me it’s not a matter of if but when.
PCO occurs in 40% of the patients.
Some doctors indicate that it is much higher than that - maybe to protect themselves and manage patient expectations. If it is only 40% I will be happy - chances are more in my favour then!
