Headache on waking every morning. Withdrawing from Citaprolam/Propanolol.

My doctor - to my surprise! - advised me to stop immediately my dosage of 10mg Citaprolam and 40mg Propanolol. He argued that the dosage was low and no gradual withdrawal was necessary. No way! I halved the dose for 2 weeks and then I took the halved tablets alternatively each day. For 4 weeks I was fine(ish) no horrorible side effects.

However, come the fifth week, I am waking with a dreadful headache. It is either the usual tension band right across the forehand, or a pain in the right temple. This is worrying me. Why after five weeks am I now experiencing these headaches, which incidentally go away as the morning progresses?

I just KNEW I was getting off easy!

Ps I have been on both tablets for 6 years.

You were right to wean off - what a stupid doctor.  I just don't understand why they're not trained in these meds.

Anyway ..... you may have still come off too quick - it may have been better to have stayed on each reduced dose for a good 2 months to ease you down.  I've just spent a year coming off these reducing by 5mg each time and the last 5mg I crushed and took 2.5mg and then 2 months later took 1.25mg then stopped.  These meds take months to work when you start them, and so should be treated the same when coming off.

That's not your fault at all - you weren't given any guidance by your doctor.  I have heard some people get withdrawal effects weeks after they've stopped.  Maybe just take it easy for now, take painkillers and keep an eye on how you feel, and do go back to the doctor if it doesn't ease or gets worse (maybe a different doctor)

I feel for you xxx

I stppped 10 mg cold turkey this past summer. I got really sick from doing it. Started getting symptoms at the second week and just kept getting worse. Week 7 I restarted. You can't stop abruptly.

Good luck (-:
