Headache

i am 4 days post op with TOTAL LEFT HIP REPLACEMENT. I had a nerve block and sedation. every day, since the block wore off i have had headaches. treated at first with morphine but this made me nauseous .. I had all codeine stopped in case this was causing the headache. i only have paracetamol and ibuprofen now. the headaches feel lessening in severity as the days go by and they do seem to be brought on by mobilising. Has anyone else experienced this with nerve block or maybe the exertion of mobilising?

Yes, I had a really bad headache for a few days and was told this can be the case following nerve block/sedation.

Hi, I was told that it can cause headaches and i experience bad ones with the morphiene.
Good luck with recovery

I had a bad reaction to the nerve block. The morning after my op, my BP went through the floor and they put me on oxygen. I then fainted and threw up several times, went shaky all over and had a horrid headache. I was told this was all the side effects of the nerve block which takes apparently take around 48 hours to get completely out of your system. The headache, however, lingered around for about a week, gradually getting less. Try not to worry yet. Hopefully, it will go in a few more days. Good luck. (BTW, I am 13 weeks post op and have had a very speedy and successful recovery. I wish you the same.)

I threw up virtually immediately after the op and continued to do so up to a couple of days or do after, I felt incredibly sick for about a week and did not want to eat anything. No one told me the reason I just thought it was the pain meds such as morphine. I had to have another op three weeks later and was dreading the sickness bit but had no problems. It was not an intrusive op so I am now not sure what caused the sickness in my case, I would like to know though in case there is a next time.
