I don’t know if anyone will be able to help but I cant seem to let my mind rest
I suffer with costochondritis (inflammation of the rib cartilage) and it can be very painful. The inflammation doesn’t get picked up in blood tests or xrays etc.
I have been getting some of the aches I normally get but a bit lower down from where they have been previously… I’ve also been getting a intermittent stabbing pain in my left side sometimes right at the very bottom of my ribcage and sometimes a little further down. Could the pain just be referred from the costo?
I went to see the doctor last week and he said he’d send me for an abdominal ultrasound although he doesn’t believe it’s anything serious, he also sent me for a vat of blood tests-full blood count, liver and kidney function, crp and cea… All of which, thankfully, came back normal.
My question is… Would the normal results put your mind at rest?
I have my ultrasound on the 23rd and I’m petrified they will still pick up cancer that the bloods didn’t show.
If you got this far, many thanks for reading
The pain you were getting could absolutely be referred pain. Pain has a way of shooting to other areas. For instance, I get occasional gastritis which is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Sometimes the pain will refer directly through to my back! So don’t worry about that.
If your lab results are normal, that should put your mind at ease because when somebody has cancer, very often the lab work is not normal. With cancer they often find too many or too few of a type of blood cells or they will find abnormal blood cells.
if you have costochondritis, that explains a lot of your pain! I really wouldn’t worry about it at all. Sometimes doctors do extra testing just to put the patient’s mind at ease. And to cover their butts! LOL.
after you have the ultrasound and get good results, then it’s time to MoveOn and enjoy your life! What happens is we allow negative thoughts to enter our mind and you have to remember that those thoughts are not based on fact or reality. Only based on fear which is not anything you can count on!
So until your appointment, keep yourself busy and remember that our thoughts are only that. they are just thoughts that have no factual evidence. The reality of it is that your pain is a result of the costochondritis. and the what is thinking is just a big waste of time. you are going to be OK! you can even find a lot of talks on how her thoughts can cause fear on YouTube. Take care
Thankyou for your reply and reassuring words.
I try so hard to look for the positive - it’s like a daily battle with my own mind.
I will take a look at you tube… Thankyou x
