health anxiety. depressed for a month !

Hi

. I would just simply like to know if I'm alone here.

I'm a 20 year old female and about a month ago I fell sick, runny nose, sore throat, congestion,  night chills, fever, headache and really bad swollen lymph nodes. I couldnt turn my neck because of the lymph nodes. But I previously had an illness called chikungunya that is said to remain in your system after a year after the infected mosquito bite. The worst thing I did was i went on Google  and searched about the flu and swollen lymph nodes.

I saw herpes, hiv, cancer. And this triggered my anxiety almost immediately.  I started having panick attacks.  I still do. And now one lymph in my right neck is still swollen and hurts but not as bad. I also recently went through a traumatic situation.  I started to itch and soon found out my tonsils were infected. I treated that now its gone. But the lymph node is still there. (Keep in mind I also had eczema as a child). Now the lymph node is causing most of my worry.  I went to an ENT and she couldnt find anything wrong with my throat and wasnt worried about my lymph node. But why?? Couldnt it be something serious? I'm still very worried  sad still thinking every thing that I feel is related to some serious illness. I cry for no reason at night. I get panick attacks, neck pain, rib pain etc. Please help sad this is taking over my life!

Relax huni I have had the same symtoms I also went to drs they said to told me I don't need medication as it's jus a throat infection!! Firstly stop googling stuff I did the same and I had a massive panic attack just so you know a panic attack can't kill you so next time you have 1 remember to breath in through nose and then out through mouth

Il send you some recipes to ease your anxiety if you would like honey... Just remember to ralax and breath smile x

Also you could have a infection called hpv this is very common infection ur symtoms sound exactly like mine xx

Hi

A lot of people here have health anxiety. Myself included. It isn't easy to deal with but you're not alone.

It won't hurt to get a 2nd opinion if you are not happy with what the specialist told you. If it gives you reassurance then do so. I've had blood tests and ecg's coz I'm paranoid about my heart. Now the doctor has referred me to a cardiologist because she wants to prove to me nothing is wrong.

It sounds like your biggest battle is the anxiety and not your previous illness, which in a lot of cases the anxiety is worse than what you had. Go see your GP again for a once over and try to rest assured that you are fine (easier said than done I know)

Get well soon

Hi Karlyn,

Sorry you're feeling so poorly. It seems like you have genuine medical symptoms as well as health anxiety.

Who was it that diagnosed you with chikungunya? A GP of a specialist. I suggest that you go back to and talk to them about your current problems, then you can find out if it's related, or a continuum of the previous illness. It could mean that this first illness has made you more susceptible to infections and viruses and perhaps this is the cause of your current symptoms.

I actually work in ENT and there are lots of this it could be (that aren't necessarily serious!) but may appear if you have a weakened immune system.

I think that you will probably need treatment for health anxiety (maybe a couple of therapy sessions- info can be attained from your GP) but your primary symptoms need to be looked at and treated. When you've seen someone, hopefully you'll have some answers (it may be easier with them knowing your medical history and more recent illnesses). Definitely see your GP about this.

I hope you start to feel better soon smile

Please Explain to me what its about. Thank you for replying smile

Thank you so much. It really is hard to do but I will try

Thanks for your response Amy. I will be seeing my GP soon. Its mostly the swollen lymph node that's worrying me at the moment.

Sorry for the late reply my symtoms where lumps in mouth especially near my tongue also. Really bad sore throat but it was more painful on the left side I also had runny nose jaw and neck cramp is this similar to what you had I also looked on the internet and it said mouth cancer I went to my dr he said I had a throat infection I dint get antibiotics as it will go on it's own so don't worry huni your fine xx

Actually, reading these symptoms, I've had the exact same thing. My GP said it might have been shingles that I had. So definitely speak to your GP smile
