heart attack and breathing problems

I am a patient in the L&D, i am allergic to heparin, i need a stent fitted and the doctor has said that they can not fit the stent without heparin. Does any one have any knowledge of this or can help. thank you.

I have just googled this and found that Lepirudin can be used instead worth asking your consultant if this a possibility but perhaps do some research yourself first so you have plenty of info to throw at them

Hi, thank you very much for answering, i will bring this up with the consultant. have been doing loads of googling to no avail.

just googled "alergy to heparin alternative lepirudin anticoagulation" and there is a lot of entries on there good luck hope you can be sorted soon

argatroban and bivalirudin are two more alternatives

I'm sorry - I don't know what you mean by L&D.

I think you need to contact either a top heart institute or a haematology specialist as opposed to a cardiology specialist since there are alternatives that can be used in case of documented heparin allergy. There are stents with and without heparin so it is just the pre/peri/post op anticoagulation that is a problem I would have thought. But I also imagine you need a unit with specialist knowledge not just a general hospital angioplasty unit.

The Royal Victoria in Belfast has published a related paper, but it does depend where you are are.

It`s blood thinner   are you on warfrin ? or any other medication ?.
