heart attack symptoms for 2 weeks!

Hi, I'm a young female thats been having heart attack symptoms for around 2 weeks. When I first went to the doctor he thought it was a pinched nerve and has sent me to a physio therapist. However after 6-7 treatments it's not getting better. I feel like I have a nut stuck in my sternum more or less constantly. Some time the area around the left side me chest feels very uncomfortable. Like a tight feeling. I have moments where I feel very sweaty. Just from Sitting. Yesterday I felt out of breath and lightheaded just from brushing my hair ( although my hair is super long and thick and pretty hard work). I have been suffering from back pain which I first assumed was from work.. but I have been of work for a few days and still Have pain. Two days ago I suffered my first ever panick attack.( although I can't really say I felt panicked). sometimes I feel tingling in my left shoulder, arm and fingers. Last night I felt sick to my stomach but didn't through up. I smoke alot for about 10 years and haven't really been involved in much physical activity for the past 6-7 months. My doctor said my heart and blood pressure are normal. I'm due for a CT scan tomorrow. Do you think I should be worried? I just have a really bad feeling that something is not Right!! Any comments appreciated.

Samantha!

Really now! I don't understand you. Are you serious? You are asking us what to do? Isn't it obvious?

STOP SMOKING !!! START EXERCISING WHEN YOU CAN.

You are young and have been smoking for 10 years? Throw away the cigarettes and get yourself a NONSMOKING boyfriend. That is what I did. I swapped cigarettes for sex. The only reason I did not get pregnant because I am a male.

So, you be careful, hear?

I'm not asking what to do, I'm asking if I should be worried.Since going to doctor two weeks ago. I have cut down smoking.

But thanks for the concern X

Stop smoking. Period. No more smoking. Realise that worrying is unhealthy.

So do not worry. But you could get a second opinion from another doctor. So do it.You should get advised by specialists not from a general practitioner.

That is important. That is your homework. Get it done.  And do it without getting nervous about it. Just do it.

^^ Bobfr636 does have a valid point. Sometime worrying (anxiety) can make the symptoms feel worse when maybe they aren't. Exercise and try to really cut down on smoking. It will get better if you give it time and help yourself by doing what I have just said. Good luck =)

Hi Samantha

Do you have any pain in your chest/ back ?. Any pain in your jaw ?

Please reply

Hi,

Yes I have pain in my chest. Mostly in my sternum. some times to the left side. The pain comes and goes. I have also pain in my baCk around both shoulder blades. I don't have any pain in my jaw. I have my CT scan tomorrow. And doctor called today to say my blood test is all good. So I think I will be fine. smile

ALL the best but do come back to me if you want

Thanks biggrin

Most welcome Sam.

Your symptoms are slightly diierent form when I had a 3 way by pass.

Bit surprised that you are not having a angiogram. That would be the test I thought you would have.

The doctor said because I'm young (22) it's highly unlikely that I'm suffering from heart problems. but the CT scan is just to make sure. I've read that maybe it's due to anxiety and that they can share the same symptoms. But I've never been that kind of anxious. I very rarely get Stressed and I consider myself pretty in control of my thoughts and feelings. So I just don't know what it could be. I had also not long started the contraceptive pill before I started getting these symptoms. And because i smoke. I thought maybe that had a part to play. But doc said that it should be fine and I shouldn't worry about not taking them. I just don't bloody know.

Hi Sam

Sorry to shorten your name. OK remember if you are NOT happy go to GP ask for an angioscan. Mention that the C T scan did NOT re ashore you and that your anxiety was getting worse. They have to do something these days.

Please keep me posted.

CT scans can take a week or so to be looked at. Angiograms are comfirmed within 25/30 minutes.

ALL the very best

That's ok. I prefer Sam.

If the symptoms persist or worsen ill be sure to ask for one.. just the doctor seems so confident it's nothing serious. (Although I completely disagree when the pain comes along)

I'll let you know what the outcome is biggrin

Hi Sam

Thanks for reply

eek

Dave

WOW did not know how to get a smiley face. Sould have go to ( SPECSAVERS ).

Samantha,

Instead of smoking and contraceptive pills you should have an IUD installed by a gynecologist. And start exersizing and your symptoms will slowly disappear.

Hi Samantha,

I think I know what you are going through.  When I was in college - ages ago - we learned that sex is a primary need to be satisfied like hunger, thirst, need to sleep and so on. I believe that to be true. However, since you a re girl, you probably should take precaution against getting pregnant. So you take contraceptive pills. In my opinion you should wear an IUD - Intra Uterine Device. When you have done that there should not be any reason for you to worry about anything. Then you would not need any valid reson for you to continue smoking. You should then stop smoking altogether.

Dear Samantha, Whatever your age don't forget that pain means your body is trying to tell you something is not right. If your CT scan comes up with nothing and you keep getting pains then persist with your GP, ask questions such as 'what else might it be due to?' Stick at it as the medics sometims jump to conclusions too soon just to get on to the next 'job'. Let us know how you get along. (I had angiogram one year after first pains started and 'just in time' as it saved my life.)

Hi. CT scan operator said I should go see my doctor tomorrow. So at least I'll have results quickly. (Although I'm not so sure that's a good thing. I read it usually takes a few days to be assessed). Anyway, fingers crossed that it's nothing serious.

Thanks for your support guys!

Actually got my CT results this evening and came back fine. Went to the physiotherapist tonight and knowing everything was fine She was a bit more rough than normal. She thinks it's a problem with my rib. Actually kind of makes sense, I guess I just got to wait and see.
