Heart feels funny when I’m asleep wake up in a panic

hello i had heart surgery 7 months ago went well but i srill get horrible dreams as if something is going to happen me in my sleep and i wake up in a panic i pretty fit and healthy person so i dont know why this is happening

given your surgery, id discuss any physical symptoms youre having with an MD. but if youre simply having thoughts and panic post surgery, its normal, heart surgery is a huge deal. just try to be thankful, for your successful surgery and for a new day.

heart surgery is a very traumatic ordeal. you are a strong person for having gone through it and survive. i would have nightmares too when faced with my own impending mortality. have you talked with a therapist about it yet? i would talk to someone, tell them what you are experiencing. the very act of talking about it and getting it off your chest may be a big help to you. kudos to you for going through it. you are stronger than you know.

it is common to have nightmares, flashbacks, crazy dreams, sleep disturbances after having a major surgery. seven months is a long time after surgery. Do you have generalized anxiety even before the surgery? if so that could come into play. there are some thoughts that certain foods can cause unusual dreams such as dairy, spicy, caffeine.
This is something you could discuss with your doctor or a therapist if it continues. they may be able to help you out

i do have anxiety i have had bad dreams before its just keeping me awake

and sugars, stay away from sugars. caffeine and sugars will not help your anxiety or nightmares one bit. might i also recommend talking to your doctor about a possible sleep aid, so you can get some descent REM cycles in. broken sleep over a long period of time makes anxiety worse. i am an anxiety sufferer and drink very little coffee in the morning, i constantly flush my system with bottled water. thats all i really drink. no soda, no fruit juice, just plain old water. an i have noticed improvements with my anxiety problem. other people may have better diet advice than i do, but i am just relaying my own experience. listen to jan (above) and stay away from sugar also.

i would also like to mention that its possible you could be going through some type of withdrawal from a med you were on for surgery or a current med you are taking now. nightmares are common for people coming off certain drugs, along with hot and cold sweats, clammy palms, etc. just wanted to throw that in there.
