Hi my names David im 26 and suffer from health anxiety with my heart. My half brother had a heart attack at 28 so when that happened i became scared soo It started nearly 2 years ago I've had over 30 visits to A&E I've had over 10 blood tests. 25 ecg's. 9 chest x-rays. I've also had a 24 hr heart monitor and a CT angiogram of my heart and valves and everything has always came back fine even my blood pressure and oxygen and heart rate and choleatrol levels are all normal yet I still suffer heart attack symptoms. Does anyone else think it's anxiety? The cardiologist has told me that there is no way after all the tests I have had there is a problem with my heart yet I still worry ... 😕
While no one can predict weather you will in the future have a heart attack, after being cleared by all those tests you can rest assured you won't be having a heart attack any time soon though I did know and can relate the fear you feel.
I started having heart issues when I was 20 years old. Mine was more rhythm problems but I have had all the tests you listed above and more many times over. I even had a cardiac Cath at the age of 25. My heart troubles caused me massive amounts of health anxiety. I was diagnosed with 3 different heart arrythmias early on but they are mostly benign as my heart is structurally normal. I also have a positive history of heart disease on my father's side. Both him and his father died suddenly of heart disease at the age of 50. Scary business for sure. Trust me when I say I understand.
I know it's hard but you will eventually get through it. Health anxiety is rough and leads us to think we have every deadly illness there is.
Chest pains can be caused by many things outside is the heart, stress and anxiety are the most common. If you are having relentless chest pains may revisit your pcp and have other things checked over. Sometime after I had the cath I found out that that batch of chest pains was actually caused by my gallbladder. I had it removed and good riddance because that's a pain I never want to feel again. The amazing thing is I went through months of serious gallbladder attacks yet none of the Drs I saw and all the visits to the emergency room even thought to check my gallbladder.
My point is anxiety can and does cause chest pains and more often then not it is found to be the cause, however just because we have health anxiety doesn't mean we will never have a real medical problem.. with that being said if it becomes bothersome have things outside of the heart checked to be safe.
Make sure you speak with your Dr about your anxiety too.. there are a lot of things you can try to manage your anxiety. No need suffering if you don't have to.
Best wishes
Thanks for your reply. My dad was born with aotic stenosis and his valve burst when he was an adult so the doctor has told me that it brings my risk factor down as it isn't heart disease and my half brother had a heart attack because he smoked for about 15 years along with weed and has high cholestrol off of his mother's side. So even tho I have a slightly higher risk it isn't as bad as most peoples as my dad didn't have heart disease and my brother is a half brother who inherited bad genes from his mother. I have an endoscopy booked for 2 days to see if it's my stomach so hopefully it's a stomach problem...
