Heartburn?

So yesterday I started having a burning pain in my upper left chest area like right above my left breast area. I took tums and ranitidine and it only helped slightly. I didn't even really eat yesterday, but I started having that pain. I also felt a cold feeling in my stomach and kind of on my throat. Today my chest is really sore there. Could it have been heartburn? I suffer from severe anxiety and I'm really scared. Does anyone ever have soreness after a bad bout of heartburn?

The meds you mention usually helps . In many cases I also takes same meds and my doc explained that the stomach acid can come back up when sleeping flat. You can buy a wedge to sleep on amazon-Doc recommended. It's best to sleep with head above the chest to keep the stomach acid from returning thru the esophagus causing burning. I don't eat spicy food or 3-4 hours before bed. Also drink milk to coat the stomach.

A flare up can last days and even weeks if it is bad enough.  I find that my stomach gets sore after taking the anti acid pills.  Anxiety makes things way worse.   I find with anxiety if you have a discomfort then it becomes the main focus and it seems way worse than what it actually is.  Try to relax and take some deep breaths.....this is a tough time of year with all the celebrations and extra foods....when you have gerd, you look forward to these events being over.

Thanks for your replies!!! I will definitely look into the wedge on Amazon! Hope you had happy holidays!!!
