We've discussed in quite detail about that "afterlife" and I'd like to go back and forth if you will join me. I have a puzzling question that's been with me since as far back as I can recall.
If some say there is a heaven and a hell, are we in purgatory?
Frustrated
The memory I go back to was while in a Catholic School, the nurses used that "purgatory" as almost a threat for us to behave.
So, with that said, I'm confused, is there a purgatory or not.
It is like the saying "We see light coming into the world, and see the light when you pass on..." Makes you wonder, and difficult to explain.
Les.
omgosh, you can see in detail how my lack of sleep is affecting me lolol not "nurses" NUN's lol sorry if I confused you
Hi Les!
It's been a while since I've seen you post. How are you feeling?
Please try to find it in you to explain because the group that are collectively working out issues, state opinions and some with experience with situations. There's no wrong or right, but input is always welcomed!
Thank you for posting

Hi frustrated, Sir, er ah Mam, That's got off to a rapid start. Let read through to get up to speed and then see if I can add a booster rocket. I shall try to beat the 30 minutes from lift off. So here I go.
HAHAHA!!! thank you for that!!!
Frustrated XxOo
Doc ~
Also, I finally got that 3 star 5 star thingy. That happens automatically, it's not something I thrive for. I'd be happy with a huge smile under my picture!
You are so silly, I'm still laughing about that "lift off" lmbo!

Right O, frustrated,
My reaction to your offering is "It certainly seems so". But as remarked elsewhere we do find valuable silver linings to the black cloud of misery caused by out ailments. Those silver linings of vibrant fellowship transcend our misery and disqualifies this present world from being Purgatory.
That then puts Purgatory back in its original position as taught you by the nurses ( no none of them) by the nuns. It is the antiroom and first area of the life to come. There I understand ordinary sort of people like me atone or pay their dues in suffering for the bad things they did on life here on earth. Then when they have paid their dues in full they move onto to a life full of bliss. If they have no possibility of paying their dues they move on to the other permanent abode which is even less nice than purgatory.
Well, that's my understading of what is meant by puratory. I don't see the after life being that way. Indeed I don't see that there is a purgatory at all. Just two eternal places, one of light and bliss; the other of darkness and misery.
Having in so ungentlemanlike a fashion dismissed Purgatory I hope you will open, in due course, a discussion on the hereafter. After, of course we have had heaps of discussion on the whys and wherefores of purgatory where it is or is not, how some might benefit from it and others who might benefit from not having it.
I look forward to what will follow with keen anticipation, dear frustrated.
In many ways I agree with your post. However (oh yeah, that "however"
lol, I almost feel like "purgatory" is a place to dwell and yes, I believe it's full of darkness. That's why my beliefs are, we are indeed in purgatory as this world has many beautiful things to look at and make one smile but in the end, here we are trying to keep one another afloat thus falling totally into the abyss (purgatory). I'm def open for further discussion or if you feel this is enough, let's get a move on to the "hereafter" which you could start and I def will follow! "If you build it, I will come", yes we're in a world of "field of dreams".
I'm hitting the hay in a few so I'll be back either later or tomorrow. Either way, Doc, you stay well and ttys <3

Hi Frustrated,
No. Life no matter what is precious. There may be times when getting through each day is tough but we know that the situation will end. Don't we??
The timing of this question is quite personal to me ! Am going through my own particular patch of purgatory, have been for some time and am patiently ( ok, not always ) waiting for a 12 month period to end.
Do you ask if life here on earth is pergatory as is - a place we all exist before going to one of the other, maybe I misunderstood the question ?
Definition of pergatory.
I shall hold my tongue for clarification here frustrated. Have already jumped in, but ner mind.
Ohh have just read the replies already in.
No, I need to think more, came out fully loaded and firing from the hip there - heck I did say I was going thro me own patch !!
What is pergatory to you, is it a specified state of being as taught, or a temporary place we find ourselves in now and then, the word before depression came into being??
Going back to bed to catch some sleep, shall return soon as .
Happy saturday both.
Jessie
Hello frustrated
two mins in bed and I am back, sleep not possible with that question on my mind lol
It begs another question, Do we make our own bed?? Or does the imput intoour lives by other play a large part. ???
4 am typing is making my fingers fumble also, so shall leave it at that, maybe that is a seperate post all together??
Later, when the day is aired.
Jessie.
Never mind that "under the picture stuff". Its all over my face, so just you leave it where it is. I am getting quite used to it being there. Doc!withasmile!!
Thanks frustrated. I think there will be milage in this discussion. Don't be put off by my stuffy comment. I am sure someone will want to tell us about righting wrongs, or suffering for hurts given to others, or asuaging guilt and that sort of thing.
You are probably just in need of your bed. The needle on your optimism dial will be down about zero. So off to bed, have some sweet dreams and the needle on the optimism dial will be reading FULL by breakfast. Nighters, frustrated.
I'm one of those sad people who actualy read the Bible as a book cover to cover including the bits the R C's add in, I've read the Book of Mormon and an English translation of the Quoran and nowhere does Purgatory fit in.
I believe it was decided by the council of Trent back in the mists of time and was re-affirmed by John Paul II when he decided to re-establish the Catholic council.
Realy what is says is that only those who die in a state of grace get straight to heaven (priests, popes etc.), the rest of us either go straight to hell or work our socks off getting holy enough to enter eternal a life (after life) of bliss.Presumably, there will be catholic priests and nuns and other VIP's to oversee it all and give instuction.
What a load of TWADDLE
just like karma the accruing of merit happens here with the number of your stars!!
oh steve was enjoying your contribution...impressed with your reading...but twaddle disappointed me..we've had no value judgements so far...so steve would you say what you do agree with please.
I'm not sure what I believe, Thoughts and idea are not physical but are none the less real and as far as I know are the only things that are real yet have no actual material in their make up, even energy in its various forms can be measured and is particulate in constuction (maybe on a sub atomic scale)
It therefore seems to me that after the body dies, ideas and thoughts have no reason to cease as there are nothing physical to die.
Now, going down another line, when I was at school I was taught a thing called conservation of mass which says that mass cannot be destroyed only converted into into something else sometimes with the release of stored energy which also can't be destroyed.
What happens to thought once it's thought?, does it cease to exist or is it indestuctable?.If the latter is the case then presumably it either goes on to approach infinity or it's absorbed by something and stored or it's converted to something else (material or energy).
If it's absorbed then maybe I believe in reincarnation,if it's on it's endless travel then maybe that is Hell.
With the reincarnation bit, some schools of thought believe that it happens until such time as it (the soul?, thought?, idea?, what ever) has got to the stage where it's living a perfect life and doing all the right things and thinking all the right thoughts and then is ready for the next phase, heaven nevana or what ever the belief is.If that's the case then life here on Earth is probably Pugatory. If it's absorbed, maybe by another brain some thoughts could be second hand or maybe even, there is a finite amount of thought and it's all recycled. I don't know what to believe. Is there such a thing as original thought???
PS. Don't be impressed with my reading list, it also contains The Sun, The Mail, The Mirror etc..... On the plus side, it also contains The Beano
Hi steve,
So you are not at all convinced that there is a purgatory at all. As a bonus you have kindly identified where the word and its concept comes from. I too don't go along with purgatory. Then there are ideas that purgaratory is conceptually the very rough spots we all have to strugle through as our life progresses. There! we have three general ideas already. It will be interesting to read how they are fleshed out with variaty of detail.
Many thanks Steve. This is an exciting beginning. I look forward to reading some more.
