Heavy Bleeding and Back to Back Periods

My period has been erratic over the past year or so. I haven't yet skipped a period, but my cycle now occurs between 17 and 34 days. Earlier in March, I got my period on Day 20, which I had for 12 days! Then, five days later, I got a second period, which is now on its 5th day. It started light, but is now so heavy that I soaked right through an ultra tampon and into my pyjamas. I am going to be seeing my doctor next week, but I am getting concerned. Have other women experienced this? I will be 51 later this year. Any thoughts would be appreciated:)

Hi Bev, yes these all over the board periods are quite common nearing menopause. Typically we are still producing plenty of estrogen, however we don’t ovulate and produce the needed amount of progesterone to keep things on track. (cycles and normal levels of bleeding)
I used a vaginal suppository of progesterone for 14 days for the last two weeks of the cycle to calm things down. It worked well, and I really liked it. Possibly your physician could prescribe one.
Other than that, kick your feet up, eat well and try to get some rest. The more you support your body, the easier it will be to transition into menopause.

I had the same issue. See my you tube videos. hemoglobin count 4.5, Part 2 Uterine Artery Embolization & post uterine artery embolization
