heavy bleeding is scary, don't know what to do....

I am 46 and in March my period came and on the last day came back in full force. It was really scary. I;ve always had a very regular period with no problems, but since March I have become scared and worried about my period each month! Went to see my Dr and had an U/S. She confirmed 2 fibroids which are 4cm and a smaller one. she told me to have a D &C or a hysteroscopy. i chose the D&C. The procedure was quick and easy and I was hoping all of my problems were over. But unfortunately it did not work for me. Every month I get very heavy bleeding which I stop with medication...This month was the worst!! I was given transanemic acid which seems to work but my Dr. sais i have to do a hysteroctomy or a partial hysteroscopy laparoscopicaly. I am really frightened of both... will see her this week and update..

It's good to know that I am not the only one out there suffering from heavy bleeding!

Hi,

I have a large 9cm fibroid that caused really heavy prolonged periods with clots. Was put on iron tablets & tranexmic acid which only helped a little.

I had the mirena coil inserted in January which won't shrink the fibroid but can reduce heavy bleeding, although can take a few months to settle. Mine is still settling & waiting for a consultant follow up but hopefully this will prevent me needing a hysterectomy.

Hi Sarah,

I also had the mirena 1,5 years ago but in April I went to the Dr to have it removed and she couldn't find. She says it must have come out . It only helped a little for the 1st few months. I really hope it works for you!! I don't want a partial hystectomy either. Take care .

Hello again! I just wanted to post my news following my last post 2 months ago...

I have seen a new doctor and I had a myomectomemy hysterosopically. I was teriffied but I found my last cycle to be even scarier than the procedure. I was booked to have the operation on June 24th. I went to the hospital in the morning and had the check up, then had the operation with general anesthesia. Once I woke up, I was ready to go within 3 hours. The surgery went well, I was in no pain and had a dvd to watch of the entire procedure!!! I was home and happy and worried too as I was due to have my period in the next 1-2 days. I will never know if it came or not because I was bleeding anyway. Nothing too heavy nor too light. A few days later I was my old self and feeling good to go. My Dr. said to wait and keep fingers crossed till my next cycle was due. It did come right on time as usual. It ok the first day but for the next 1.5 days I had to change every 1 1/2 hours round the clock and then it was normal without medication. It was spotting  and lasted a total of 7-9 days. I guess the good news is that it stopped without any transanemic acid or any other medication.

I waitinf for my second cycle in the next 2 days and will keep you posted....

HOPING it will be bearable and NOT heavy!!

PS- the doctor also suggested taking ESMYA pills for 3 months.... anybody has any experience with that?

Wishing all the best to fellow sufferers.....
