At nearly 12 weeks PO and feeling great, I wasn't really expecting to be posting again. How wrong I was.
On Saturday after walking back from the hairdressers, I remembered we needed some cat food. One box would have done the trick, but wait, it was on special offer and so I bought 3! Oh yes, we also needed milk, so a 4 pint bottle also got added.
Walked home briskly carrying this fairly heavy shopping bag and by Saturday evening, I was beginning to ache.
Yesterday was terrible, I was limping again, couldn't walk up the stairs unaided, pain in my groin, knee and outer thigh.
Slept last night on my back again, with my feet raised, just like the early days. I feel like I have set myself back 5 weeks.
This morning, still not much better. Needing to use a walking stick around the house whereas prior to Saturday you wouldn't have even known I'd had an op, I was walking so well.
I am angry with myself, could this shopping bag caused so much strain? I'm also really worried that I have done some serious damage. 😦😦
I am so sorry to read about your experience. Is it possible that the ache you are suffering would be cpmparable to that of going t the gym after a long while; ie: your ache and stiffness is from muscles you have not used for a while?
Thanks Graham, I'm hoping that is all I have done, just a straightforward case of overdoing it. If you can still manage to do similar then at least I'm in good company!
Feet are up, with tea, biscuits and TV for company. Just annoyed that the crutch has reappeared by the side of my chair. Grrrrr.
Wishing you well on your phased return to work this coming week. I hope all goes well for you and the commute is not too strenuous. Will be thinking about you as I'm sure all our fellow hippie family will be too.
That is very kind of you to remember. Yes only a couple of weeks to go. As soon as I can drive, I will have to go back to work :-/
I guess we are programmed to think we are more able than we actually are. It is a shame tha our brains think we are about 20 years younger than our bodies. If it was the other way round, I suggest we could have had a happier and healthier life.
I hope a couple of days of R & R will sort your aches and pains.
i did exactly the same thing, carried shopping in that was heavy, felt so bad thought i done damage the lot, rested next day but took its time, it's stupid isnt it, its just a shopping bag, but when you're still recovering its a ton weight. I think it's another one of the things that happen on this journey,
Hi Dawn, yes you probably overloaded one side carrying a shopping bag, I used a backpack and was using the shopping trip as a weight training excersise, I live very close to a large Sansburys in Blackpool and bought a large backpack to spread the load over both sides, it worked for me, and yes overdoing it does still hapen to me now even after 7 months, just rest up and get a few hours extra sleep or read in bed, just give into it...whenever you need to, sure that you have not done anything serious, just underdoing it a little probably for a while, then a bit of a one sided wham....Happy Easter and stay in touch. Ian.
You're so right Ian. Had I given it any thought I would have brought a rucksack with me, but I was only meant to be carrying one box. Which then turned into 3 boxes and the milk! Stupid really. But lesson learnt. 😊
How are you feeling this morning ? I did the same thing, not once but a couple of times - so stupid - I live in a bungalow park at the moment and it is a no-car park except for Mondays and Fridays ...so I have to wal to my car , which is fine, very good actually - about 250 meters - and at times I have a bag of groceries that might be a tad too heavy -
I don't think I damage anythong but pretty sure that I am delaying the healing ...
will find out today when I see the surgeon at check-up
