Hi, thought i’d give a little update...7 weeks post op and been back to work a week and so far all fine, I sit at a desk but am getting up regularly and so far so good, have to say it’s nice to be back!
Also not using crutch and i’m Just amazed at how I can walk without pain or a limp, it’s fab! So much so that last night I felt confident enough to wear heels to my work do and it was fine, no trips or slips in sight so think i’m gonna go shopping for a new pair today lol.
Hope all you hippies have a peaceful and pain free Christmas xxxx
I love to hear a successful story! That’s how my left hip was 2 years ago,, I’m only 48,, and when I first had the pain that made me hurt,, I was 44 and in cosmology at the college, half way through my year long program and I thought I pulled a muscle cause I worked out then the pain would radiate down my leg I was limping , they first told me it was siatica,, and then bursitis, till I demanded a MRI,, and then finally found out that it was because my hip was bone on bone! They were shocked because of my age and not overweight,, but me I was relieved to hear there was a solution!!! they said I could get a hip replacement and it would get rid of the pain,, so I did, and it worked! No pain and I was back to good and back to work ,, I thought that’s how my right hip would go till this mess with the infection,,I didn’t wait as long as I did to decide to have the surgery, it didn’t hurt all the time like my left hip did,, it would catch now and then and only hurt bad if I was up on my feet walking a lot that day,, I know I couldn’t have had no clue that this time surgery went so bad, you hear the risks but never think it could happen,,I’m glad I wasn’t working at the time of my surgery,, I probably would have been let go because not many jobs will wait for you for 3-4 month recovery. Did they say you would eventually have to have the other hip done some day? They were able to tell me when I had my left one done that my right wasn’t far behind it, but at that time had no problems at all with right hip,, but they were right about it, they said they couldn’t say how far it could last, maybe even 10 years,, but it only was 2 years latter unfortunately.
Thanks for your update, it's good that operation can be so effective. I'm at 2 weeks on Monday RHR and getting there, I'm marking my recovery in weeks rather than days which seems to work as some days I don't notice any improvement but I certainly can see the difference weekly. The first week was full on pain, tiredness and having a leg which felt like lead. During the second week I'm off the opiates and now the leg is unswollen and can swing it in and out of bed a lot easier. I'm looking forward to the third week.
Thanks for writing and good luck to everyone going through this process.
