I started having panic attcks a few days ago, I had anxiety, I also developed unusual taste and I have a strong sense of smell, I smell everything so strongly when others can't and sometimes smell things that are not there, is this due to anxiety?
Hi Christopher, it very well could be a knock on effect a sub section of the fight or flight response which heightens every sense and neuropathy etc to evade danger And our hard wired self preservation.
What are your other symptoms if I may?
Yes indeed. Anxiety and hyper awareness often go hand in hand. In my case I needed to be hyper aware for stuff happening, but then it just took me over and I couldn't stop it. If it was a physical challenge, you would overcome it and that would be that. Once it gets hold of our thinking it is much more difficult to stop, I found. It's good to start the process of understanding what is happening for you as soon as you have your head above water. I hope you feel better soon, David.
I took Sertraline Monday for OCD, I had some side effects the next day, and they were worse after I took a second dose, I woke up with a major panic attack, I felt nauseous, etc, and dilated eyes, its been two days since I took te meds, but my anxiety has been high, I have been worrying about having a disease since I have the symptoms, such as smelling stuff that isnot there and strong sense of smell, but also other anxiety symptoms, I just am scared because of the sense of smell, didn't know what was causing it
Indeed as mentioned, being hyper aware of what we feel abd experience is so part of anxiety. Anxiety is our minds way of preparing ourselves to get out of danger. The problem is we perceive a constant threat when there is no threat. Also health anxiety sneaks in as part of ocd- all linked to the self preservation instinct. All very difficult to deal with, and terrifying I know. Therapy or meds can help, it just takes time, but best not do it alone. Help is out there so grab as much as u can
