Hello from the other side !

Hello again !

It's been 9 months since my THR and I thought I would just pop in to say how things have been and give some encouragement to those of you goingthrough the ' interesting ' times of a THR . Those of you who remember me when I first had it done know that I was in the slow lane of recovery but it has all come good . Just wanted to say that you will reap the rewards of a THR , and the best bit of advice I can give is listen to your body and DON'T compare your recovery to anyone else's! I have my pain free life back and I am so grateful to the lovely people on this forum who kept me sane when sleep alluded me and the gremlins came out to play . Big hugs, best wishes and speedy recoveries to everyone .Hilary x

How lovely to hear this.  Thank you!

So many people have commented that everyone going thru this procedure is different. I can honestly say that there are only so many variables included with THR. Some expected, some predictable others depending on the individual patient history.

10 days post op , I so needed that , thank you so much πŸ’›. Life sucks right now . But I managed to wash my hair in the sink today so I'm on the up πŸ˜€ Right ? . Iv been wondering all day tho , you saying about getting your life back , will I ever be able to wear high heels again ?? 😰, I'm 35 😳 X

When your muscles are back in shape and core strong wear any shoes you wish. If after you feel pain from wearing shoes then stop .

I rode my horse , did gardening and worked a 12 hr week wearing all types of shoes. My first hip replacement I was in mt 40's . In good shape.

It it a personal preference and something to work toward.

good luc

Hi Hilary , it's great to hear from you hippys who are in front re recovery , can't thank you enough for sending posative vibes and really happy for you πŸ˜€

I'm 4 weeks post op n pain free on new hip but Oh Lord I'm in agony on Left and now can't wait to get THR Left , this is nothing short of a miracle to be pain free even after 4 weeks and I a man so angry that due to anxiety I put this off for 2 years , next time I'll be there like a shot , keep in touch you're an inspiration Hun

Exactly. We are told but surgeons to wait until the pain becomes difficult to live daily. Yet fear, anxiety is normal even when in my case I had experiences THR before.

Long term we get a better quality of life in the end.

Hi Bobbie yes you will be able to wear heels again but listen to your body. I tried a few times and didn't feel right. Finally at around 10 months I finally managed to wear them on a night out no probs. I don't wear heels regularly so maybe why it took me so long. Try them in doors first but don't be in a hurry. 4 months post op went to my nieces  18th birthday party. Had to wear flats and did try to dance but way too soon. I'm 13 months post op now. Back in the gym. Do Aqua Zumba and dance. I had a rough time but never regret having the op. X

thank you for this xxxxx

Thank you for your lovely replies . The early months are very challenging and I wondered if I was ever going to put my own knickers on without a grabby stick or a lot of huffing puffing again ! ( thankfully I can ) .

I can promise you that you will look back one day and realise just how far you have come ☺

Take care everyone

Hilary

Hi Hilary

Thanks so much for this posting, really helpful and encouraging as I prepare for my first LTHR 2 weeks today. Can't wait to get it over with now, but know that's only the start of the recovery. My daughter has invited me to London for Christmas and I'm wondering if I'd be mobile enough to be driven 3 hours in the car at 7 weeks post op? As you say, everyone's different so who knows, fingers crossed!

Thanks again and best wishes for the future. x

Ahhhh....the knickers!  You have to laugh and if my mother hadn't told me I had to wear a clean pair every day in case I was in an accident, I swear I'd stay in old knickers rather than grapple with the grab sick! One leg or two?

Margaret. I would check with your surgeon re travelling to your daughters as at 7 weeks it may be too much. I know I certainly wouldnt have done it after mine at that stage. I travelled 2 hours each way at nearly 3 months. We had stop every hour so I could get out and stretch. Driving 20 mins to qork at week 8 was enough. X
