I need to know the best medication to take away the cravings for alcohol but allowing me to have a couple first, then not feeling the need to carry on . Can I get this online without a perscription as I really dont want me doctor knowing ? Things are becoming desperate for me now as Ive tried cutting back so much . I really feel so angry with myself and cross about how alcohol seems to control me !! I drink a bottle of wine every eve . The real trouble is when I attend a social event and cant seem to stop drinking , then make a fool of myself, do the most bizarre things that I cannot remeber as I have very bad blackouts .

What I am taking is Naltrexone. You will need to see your GP to get it or Nalmefene. Your doctor will be proud of you for coming forward with this admission. Please do not worry.

Both have side effects that will pass over a couple of weeks - so well worth it.

A bit pricey but still reasonable considering how much booze costs !!!

They take away the need or cravings assosiated with alcohol.

PLUS, we all get to live a longer/happier/healthy life.

I think this is definately a conversation to be having with you GP or an AA group. I have been there and I know, I stopped altogether but I did so by gradual decline and social exclusion etc which was really tough. Stay strong and keep in touch

Firstly don't buy any drugs online. You don't know what youre getting. Don't go to social events when you know what effects alcohol has on you.

Tim  naltrexone is fine if you can get! My gp had never heard of it! Amazing what the BMA tells you lol!j

Thank you all for the advise ! Yes, of course Vicky , It was a sypid idea to think I would buy them online

I'm going to take that step and go to the docs on Wednesday this week I cannot carry on like this. Im getting worse as I get older and need to stop this now . I did it with the smoking four years ago, so will do it with the wine !!

I have a very responsible job so need to be focused plus drink is ruining my relationships

I got mine from a shrink, not my GP. These doctors do specialize in addictions AND do listen.

Also, as Vicky has mentioned, her GP had never heard about these meds. Be prepared to convince him/her of the benefits you will get.

Nalmefene is a newer version of Naltrexone which you only need to take an hour before a planned drinking day. As far as I know it is only available in the UK - which I am not .

Hi let us know how you get on as my dr never heard of nalmefene and had to look it up. I didn't like naltrexone. Was on it last year for a few months. Good luck in finding something to help you.

Ya know something??? I don't care for it either but it has helped me cut back.

I take a lot of meds-antidepressants, b vits, thiamine, multi vits etc. just didn't like having to take everyday when I wasn't even drinking for weeks. It made me lethargic, foggy brain and stuff. However it definately cuts alcohol as you don't enjoy it as much. So for anyone trying to cut down its a miracle!

I know that I will feel extreme tiredness if cutting down anyway so Im considering just being stronger than ever with my will power etc

My main trouble is drinking socially ! Its simple really . I will be the driver . One glass then thats it . I dont go out much really and to be honest Im absolutely fine to drink at home when I want to help ease the stress of the day

Thats mt challenge from now on

Im the taxi . Much better that way than acting the idiot !!!
