Hi everyone, I had my THR on 17th march & I've been out on my first shopping trip today! Treated myself in the sales, after what we've been through I reasoned a new dress or two was just what the doctor ordered..lol
I've been having to get up during the night for the loo, have numbness & restless leg feeling in my operated leg, it's so reassuring when others have the same issues going on.... Do the hospital get in touch re: physio appointments, they haven't mentioned anything to me - I went to the Royal Orthopaedic, Northfield,Birmingham
Chris, forgot to say have a great time on your jolly :-)
It's been a week now since my op. Must have over done it yesterday, had a longer walk down the village and pottered about more than usual - boy did I feel it last night
I've started using a microwave bean bag during the day. The most pain is in my knee - I've got finger print bruises behind my knee where I suspect someone was grabbing and yanking! Seem to be getting bone aches too and the ache of an permanently numb bum. Today I've done nothing and feel better for it - taking arnica as well which hopefully will help. I'm taking naproxin 3 x a day, paracetamol twice in the day, Cocodamol before bed and paracetamol half way through the night.
I've got no Physio sessions, just doing what I was told to do and going back to see consultant on the 13 may.
Can walk with just one stick in the house but have two when I've ventured outside. My dressing came off today too - the wound looks very neat - quite surprised!
Don't worry about getting a 'dropout day', I had them too. I think it is just your body's way of dealing with all the hard work it is doing healing up after surgery and coping with all the drugs. Hope things pick up but one of the nurses said 'listen to your body' - good advice.
Hi Bonny, getting the balance of 'how much is enough' is really hard isn't it? Too much & you are knackered, too little & the guilt kicks in!
I was surprised when I saw the incision site, longer than I imagined (29 staples & 3 on the drain site), really neat though & pale pink already & all my bruising has gone..... I started to use bio oil yesterday (thanks to Chris), feels a bit sensitive around the cut but am going to persevere.
I am using one crutch around the house too, still using two whilst out and about but I used a wheelchair for periods today though as I spent the day shopping which has zapped all my energy!
I am getting numb-bum too, it feels weird doesn't it? Do you struggle to get out of bed at night, feeling a little seized up?
You are v. young for a new hip, younger than me @ 44.. My surgeon kept asking if I could wait a little longer, but it got to the point, like you, i couldn't do anything and my quality of life had deteriorated to watching from the sidelines 😣. After the surgery he came to see me to tell me bones were so deteriorated they couldn't be donated and apologised for making me wait! It's getting better everyday though & I'm so grateful for his great work & although it's still early days I'm better than before 😀
Greetings from drizzly Cornwall...now I know why we go to Spain for our hols!!
Kim...glad the bio oils working it is truly remarkable stuff... I beat you on the staples...had 36! now the scar is only a faint pink line and the hard bits have almost disappeared.
I've been really stiff while down here but plenty of walking on one crutch and an hour in the pool has really increased my flexibility..
can't get a signal here so relying on wifi......
keep up tne good work...
Chris
