I posted about my hip dislocating a couple of weeks ago where I was waiting 32hours for it to be up back in so I won't go into all the details again but I've just been sitting here and it nearly happened again. Since yesterday I've had a total of 5 strange experiences with the hip either not feeling as it's sitting correctly after I sit down to it pretty much feeling like it jumps out then back into place. When I saw my surgeon after the last dislocation he pretty much told to just be careful wear my brace at night and still be aware it's early days. My operation was July 2nd it was my 3rd on the same hip, I'm still using 2 crutches but I'm getting worried to even move again like I was following the dislocation, the pain at the time was unbelievable. I just don't know what to do. I am convinced after yesterday and today it's going to happen again.
im 43 yrs old and apart from the dislocation about 12 days ago have never suffered with that problem before
so sorry to hear that, what as your reason for THR at 43 I only ask because that might be behind the reason for the dislocation. I hope you get some answers soon, I really feel for you? which procedure did you have ?
That's horrible. Not moving won't help the muscles which you need to stabilise the hip but the fear must be wearing. This is a bit left field but I might think about Alexander Technique which is a way of thinking about movement and producing balanced, controlled movements. It's done one to one and concentrates on doing everyday movements correctly rather than exercises involving muscle building. It's only available privately and it also depends on finding someone qualified near to you - make sure they are properly trained because otherwise you could do harm. Not sure it would help but who knows.
Hi I had an accident at work 10 yrs ago and I've been in terrible pain ever since the main reason for it this time was metal on metal and severe pain unable to walk
I'm in the uk just outside Birmingham and my operation ( all of them ) were done at the royal orthopeadic hospital by a very good surgeon (I have done recearch on him)
I have had 2 replacements on the same hip. The revision was more complicated and hurt a heck of a lot more. I was warned plenty to avoid activities that might result in a dislocation.
In your case, I know it's the third time and each successive procedure get more complicated-however, what you describe does not sound good at all. Saying a second opinion is in order is easy to suggest, not so easy to do.
If at all possible, try a teaching hospital. If not possible, try to find someone that has performed done 1000+ thr. Good luck to you.
I felt the same as the revisions were more painful and I understand about the second opinion. I am happy with my surgeon as he has tried anything to make my life better and was warned things could get worse. I think having gone through one dislocation about 12 days ago which was hell on earth just worries me. I will contact them tomorrow but thanks for the advise
I had the same thing happen to me was just sitting nearly 2 weeks after surgery,i felt and saw the leg move to the middle i managed to get up quick grab my crutches and felt and heard an allmighty clunk and click.Irang the hospital and told them that i thought it may have semi dislocated to be told no such thing,as i was going for my 2 week revision i left it at that but could feel the joint clicking as if it was coming out the socket. when i walked scared me silly then again the next night i felt that strange feeling and got up quick was scared to siit then on the morning of my appointment it happend again and as i got into the car it dislocated pain was excruciating. On arrival at hospital i was told i had what is called hip Sublaxation partial dislocation it was put back and like you i was scared to move but try to be brave and do the excercises it is because the muscels are weak now into my 6th week still very careful how i move but the clicking is gone and hopefully the strange feeling of the hip slipping..
