Hi
I’m having a high anxiety bad day. I’m 20 days into taking citalopram. Had very bad insomnia last night and have felt pretty awful most of the day. I’m pretty anxious now it’s 18:30pm and will be following my children straight after their bedtime tonight. I’m physically and mentally exhausted. I have horrible tense muscles and just want to sleep.
Can I take half of a diazepam before bed? I took 10mg of citalopram this morning. I have never taken it before, Hence why I am suggesting cutting one in half?
Will this help? Will I sleep better? I think I just need a good night sleep to get back to a more positive state of mind. Any suggestions welcomed?
Yes you can i have done it before, hopefully you will feel better after a good nights sleep. X

Take the full dose as recommended by your GP, splitting medications can damage the dose, Trust your GP

I didn’t bother in the end. I just went to bed at 7:30pm and have pretty much slept through until 5:45 ( although woke a handful of times ) but never experienced the horrible anxiety I had the previous night. Thank god. Just have a very rumbling and popping tummy which I think is ibs caused by the anxiety. Hopefully I have a better day now x
I was prescribed the diazepam before I was put on citalopram. Just for emergencies. So didn’t know if I could take them together. I don’t know if I’d call what I was feeling an emergency. And emergency to me is a panic attack.

If they have been prescribed you take the full dose, generally we only need to reduce medications if we are told to do so
With my medications I had to go to Pain Clinic and there I was taught how to vary medications, Pain Killers, in line with my medication needs.
Your GP will have taken into consideration your needs in this case, trust your GP.
All the best
