Help feeling suicidal off mirtazapine withdrawl

I've gone cold turkey and I can not bare these side effects anymore I wouldn't do anything stupid though

Off what dose and how long where you on it ?

7.5 mg for a year they had stopped working

Hi Pamela, how log ago was ur last dose? maybe take half a 7.5mg dose until you can see a dr?

Which side effects are they?

Knowing that these awful feelings are only temporary and a result of the withdrawal hopefully makes I easier to bare.  Hopimg you feel better soon smile

Go back on your full dose for at least a month, then consider a very small reduction and so on. Get used to the idea that if you reduce by 10% per month it could well take you around a year to get off these. Cold turkey is too much for your body to take. It has taken me 6 months to reduce from 30 to 15 and I'm fine, however, I am certainly under no illusions that this is easy as I tried before and in my experience it's the last bit that's the hardest. I wish you luck. I can't emphasise enough how slowly you need to take this. Keep us posted

i am in same boat but taken two months to reduce down from 7.5 which wasnt doing anything much.  I am getting worse depression and anxiety along with headaches etc.  Now only down to 3.75 and dont know how much longer i can do this.  Need a change of anti dep i think but appts are sparse

I'm thinking about giving in and trying 15mg to see if that helps...feeling so desperate hate waking every morning knowing I have to face another day feeling like this 😢😢😢 please keep in touch with me Ann with updates on how you are feeling ☺

Pamela, do that. It's not giving in. Don't beat yourself up about it. I've done it twice.

I really want to try it again but the only reason why I stopped it was because it wasn't working it seemed to off pooped out I was only on 7.5mg...if I try 15 mg it might start working again? I've been sat here waiting for the doctor to ring me since 8 am 😯

You will definitely feel the benefit. There is nothing to lose.

Will do.  I feel your pain. Try to hang on there. I dont know why drs dont tell us how bad this can be. Calmer is very knowledgeable here if you have queries.   Do you find you feel terrible in morning but can feel better by dinnertime somedays?   Dont know where you are but know there are others like us and they get better.  Message me anytime.

Thanks Ann my doctor finally rang me at 6 30 only waited 10 hours for his call!!! He has give me some propranolol and I feel so much better...hope you feel better soon Ann x

HI, sorry you’re suffering so much, you asked for help and I know how you feel.

Do not despair, it will pass, fear is the enemy in the Mirtazapine withdraw, Mirtazapine is a very powerful neurotransmitter for  GABA , sortation even at low doses, jumping off will play havoc on your brain, try and calm yourself down, do things to try and take your mind to another level, I jumped off at 7.5 and am at 100 days off  my last dose now and it has gotten better day by day,  and it will get better  for you but not fast very slowly, look deep inside yourself for strength and courage to continue on, It does not happen overnight the mental and physical surfing will pass, you may not even notice it but it will get better for you, each day it will get better. Are you on any other drugs or alcohol? These things play into the whole WD process, that way you’re not second guessing you’re self.

God bless you

So far you’ve survived 100% of your worst days. You’re doing great. Keep doing it. If you feel you need to take some MIRT to stabilize yourself, do not be ashamed, but do not go back to a higher dose, this prolongs the WD process, and I did it myself several times

Hi

Great advice

What dose did you taper from. Im on 45mg and plan to try and drop to 37.5mg.

Hi Pamela,

Firstly, you shld never hve just stopped taking mirtz. They are v strong meds, need to restart them at the dose you were at and come off them very, very slowly. I was on 20mg for under a year. I just tapered off the slowly and i had no withdrawal effects. Good luck. X

Hello Pam please let me just tell you for first that you are not alone, many of us including me have come off cold turkey and completely without any reductions/tapper and it is the worst, I did it in march of this year and I'm still feeling depersonalized i did go back on it though and if you still have a chance to reinstate please do so and then do a tapper because if you don't you will have a really hard time, but there's hope even though I struggle a lot there has been good days which means that if you do the tapper you will be fine, we are all different and we will have different results but trying is how we succeed so do whatever it takes so you can feel like yourself again but hang in there friend we are here to help you!!! Stay strong!💜💜💜💜💜

Hi,

I was at 15mg when I started to taper, I was not able to taper below 7.5, So I stopped, I did this several times, I would reinstate for a short time and try again.  It is not easy to get off but it can be done.

Good luck

Hi Pamela

Sorry to read of your suffering.  Great post from Switchman-says it all.  I agree with him - don't go back to 15 mg, go back to 7.5 & WAIT.

Mirt is not a matter of getting this chemical out of your body as some imagine, it is more to do with letting the brains neuro transmitters reform very slowly, the sliwer the better.  Just jumping off Mirt CT pulls down the support "Mirt trellis" - reducing slowly allows homeostasis.

You may not recover to your 'Mirt normal' overnight but it will help you more than staying completely off.  Hang in there, you will stabilise & then when comfy you can do a slow taper & come back here to tell us how well you are doing 😊

Thank you so much for all the great posts!!! 😊😊😊 I don't drink or do drugs switch man I take citalopram as well. I had a 7.5mg last night and it has made no difference 😯

How are tou today Pamela?  Have you managed to sleep and how is the anxiety?  I still have nausea every day as i wake, do you get it at all?  I am hoping that as i decrease it may go, makes everything so hard to get through.

i have never had propanolol, does it help?  I think it is for racing heart, i dont get that though.
