HELP!! I feel worse on Zolof after 5wks on 50 mg. I smoke and want to stop and use Wellbutrin

I am 65 and been depressed & high anxiety. I started Zoloft 50mg 5 weeks ago & symptoms see alot worse. I have been on xanax for a couple of years & now my symptoms have increased I smokeing more 1/12 packs a day & I started to drink 2 to 3 glasses of wine in the evening so I wouldn't take my second 1mg xanax pill because I have become addicted to them. I have NO APPETITE, CAN'T SLEEP, AGGITATED MORE SO.

LOSS OF MEMORY, NO CONCENTRATION....I really want to stop smoking so bad and was thinking of switching over to Wellbutrin. I'm very nervous because side effects are very severe & afraid of seizure. I am also on blood pressure drug & according to side effects could increase pressure. Has anyone taken Wellbutrin & had success with quiting smoking? Also had bad side effects??

Please contact your doctor and let him/her know how Zoloft is affecting you, and why you are concerned. You should be given an alternative medication.

Hello Linda,

Sadly I have no experience with any of the prescription drugs you mention but I am also a 65 year old woman and I do have considerable experience with alcohol. Indeed I am an alcoholic albeit of in excess of 30 years in recovery. Do NOT go down this route particularly in view of the fact that alcohol is a DEPRESSANT drug, it is like making a bleeding wound even bigger by cutting it!  I also used to smoke 60 cigs a day and stopped when I was 48 with the help of an inhalator. Hopefully somebody on the site has experience with your meds and can be of more help. Anxiety is awful but manageable with other techniques. My personal favourites are relaxation breathing and open air exercise. I have 3 dogs so I have to go out in all weather but when I return I am so glad I did. We are all here  to support you Linda. Take care x

I saw my doctor last night & she changed my meds.

Now she put me on (DULoxetine) generic for (Cymbalta) and (Mirtazapine) generic for (Remeron).

Many scary reviews for Cymbalta, didn't look up other one yet.
