Has anyone else had the same symptons? I woke up was sunddenly deaf in my right ear that was 7 weeks ago i went to A&E and managed to see someone in ENT outpatients examination showed no infec or wax?? Had hearing tests which confirmed my hearing was very poor and sound wave tests showed no sound was getting in? I was told to i needed to see consultant ent which my appointment was 10 weeks later! Ive now. Been the same for 7 weeks im going today for more hearing tests and see consultant tomorrow anyone else the same problems its so depressing i can only hear my heart beat pounding thats it!!

Hi Corinne. Just a thought, possibly it is the build up of fluid in the eustachian tube. I know several people this happened to. It cleared up.

hi oh i hope so its really annoying and its getting me down it dosnt seem to have any improvement in the last 7 weeks just got worse thank you for your reply at least it gives me some hope it will return to normal x

I hope so too Corinne.

Thank you so much x

You are welcome Corinne. Just a thought though. If it is connected to eustacian tube - which is fairly likely - then there are a few things you might be able to do to help. One is to try an ear popper. The other is to look up the various different exercises you can do to unblock that tube. Just keep googling till you find a good one. They wont cost anything and cannot do any harm and hopefully will help.

Hi thanks so much i have been today for hearing tests as it was a cancellation appointment its split so tests were today consultant tomorrow the audiologist  confirmed hearing loss and pressure tests indicated it was a problem with the inner ear so will wait until tomorrow see what the outcome is x i have no pressure feeling like my ears need to pop i just seem as if nothing is getting thru apart from hearing my own voice and heart beat? Very loudly i appreciate your comments and will read up it may just help :-) so thanks again

It happens to a lot of people and it happened to me a while ago. The ear popper and exercises helped me but in the end I had to sort out my stomach as it was sending up stuff that blocked it. Good luck.

Oh no way!! Sounds nasty i hope your well and truly sorted now smile im going to have some time this evening and have a read up on what you suggested thank you x

Hi Corinne ,i have had similar problem ,but i have had ear problems for a long while now ...i had a op about 12 years ago for oscerluuoise ,i had the two bones removed from my middle ear and replaced with teflon ones , but been ok really for the last 12 years ...... i was at work 5 weeks ago and picked something heavy up and i went completly deaf for 2 days then i could hear robot voices when people spoke to me ,the doctors keeps telling me its congestion ,i no something not right ,i can hear a little now with one hearing aid in , i have very bad tinius all the time and can hear my heart beat ,getting me very depressed frown going to the hospital on 21st and to see a consultant at the end ov august ,, hope they find out whats wrong with you and myself ,,,please keep me up to date as you will give me hope they can fix me to : ) xx

Hi rachele oh that sounds awful for you surely after your history they should have checked you out sooner!! Good news your getting seen august fingers crossed they sort you out its so frustrating and depressing! sad i have never suffered with my ears maybe the odd infection but thats it its 7 weeks since i lost my hearing it depresses me too im awaiting an mri scan in the meantime they have started me on steroids and nasal spray? Oh i really wish you luck please keep me informed and ill keep you updated too x they offered me hearing aids until i get sorted but i declined wish i took them up on it now as its so bad! I keep avoiding people because i cannot hear what they are saying its so awful and uncomfortable i know how your feeling keep your chin up keep me updated take care xxx

Glad to hear you are having an MRI scan. Pulsating Tinnitus (where you can hear your heartbeat) needs always to be checked. It took 5 years to me to find out what was wrong. In all that time I only had CT scans and an operation that should never been attempted as they thought it was a polyps in my ear. I never had an MRI which was the correct test. I have a very rare glomus tumor in my middle ear which has been there for 10 years now. I am waiting radio therapy treatment as I refused the full surgery due to the high risks involved. Hope you get sorted soon smile

Hi Corinne, I too have had exactly the same experience you have had, although my deafness happened after a virus. My hearing tests showed severe deafness and a problem with the inner ear. The outer and middle ear were fine. I had blood tests and an MRI scan which I go for results from tomorrow. I have a really loud tinnitus noise in my ear and also what sounds like a dripping tap. If I drink lots of water it eases, alcohol and loud noises make it worse. I have resigned myself to the fact that my hearing may not return as is what the consultant had said, they have diagnosed it as sudden sensorial hearing loss. I would go for a hearing aid as I really struggle to hear when not in a quiet surrounding, socialising has become a nightmare

and even shopping. The consultants don't really know why this has happened and cannot give any time frames to my hearing returning, if at all. Hopefully your situation may improve, it can but at any time, just push for all the tests you can gave, hope goes ok

hI corinne, thia happened to me last week, i was already partially deaf in my left ear, had a dizzy spell so went to lie down, when i got up i was completely deaf in that ear, no sound whatsoever, even music at full blast through ear plugs  ,right ear also poor hearing so i cannot hear tv or follow any converstation. was a patient at ENT but they discharged me so will have to go through process again, it took 18months last time,

have they sorted you out yet, i do hope so as i know how frustrating this is.

I also have no wax or infection so it must be something in my inner ear- had lots of infections as a child - am now 73-i am carer for husband so this is a severe inconvenience.

Mine has been going on since June 2014. I have lost 40% of my hearing in my right ear.

Tested, given a steroid injection in the ear drum, had deviated septum surgery, and nothing has helped.

I got a second opinion and I need reconstructive surgery in the middle of my nose to help it stay open. Nothing for sure yet. I hope you get help. It is so annoying.

I hear crickets and cracking noises day and night.

I lost 40% of my hearing in my right ear. Like you. Over night. I have been to ENT several times.

Had a steroid injection in my ear drum. Took a round of oral steroids and had surgery for deviated septum. None has helped my hearing at all.

I got a second opinion and I will see what the CT scan shows when I go for it tomorrow.

I am 71 and in good health otherwise. It just doesn't seem like I am getting the help I need.

I will post the results,if any, soon.

Going back to your first post where you say you had steroid injections into your ear???? OMG I had similar and just woke up with no hearing in my rite ear too. I thought it would be a straightforward stapedectomy. Am I wrong as you present with same symptoms as me!!

Yes I still have all the symptoms I listed earlier. It has been since May or June of 2014.

I had a CT scan this morning and hope it reveals whst is wrong.

I hear a constant roaring and hissing in my ear and it is driving me nuts.

I hope you get better results on your situation but no one seems to know or care much about fixing mine.

Hi again ethyl, you dont say where you are living , I am in wales and it takes at least 6 months to get an referrel apptment, so thinking of going private for initial consultation- the scan takes even longer, so i am feeling desperate too.

Could not hear anything of tv over xmas or follow any conversations, have been reassessed at hearing aid clinic and my left ear has dropped to bottom of scale , my right ear being 2 thirds of the way down.

I was fitted  with 2 hearing aids, but technician admitted, left one was not able to do much even with it at its strongest. so bliss i can hear wuith my right ear.

Still worrried about why i went so deaf suddenly and will show graph of hearing test to doc tomorrow and see if she can push apptment forward- i do not want to be dependant on aids if there is another solution. Still have tinnitus in head and can feel other noises in my ear.

Surely this has to be one of the most distressing of disabilities, you feel so cut off from the world- i can see why people withdraw and get so angry.

Hope you have some good news soon and someone will help you- do you think our age is against us?

I think it's more a nerve problem than our age. If I had been sick, other than sinus infection, I might think age too.

I tried for months to get my doctor to prescribe antibiotics and did not get them.

The pressure is bad and feels like my whole face us going to burst. My head is full of infection and that scares me.

I hope you get help sooner. If I get any news I will post it. Hang in there and don't get depressed.
