Had another grand mal again was taken to hospital freaked my boyfriend out! I have generalised petit mal and have had 2 grand mal seizures in 3 months. Need to know if this is normal my epilespy changing from petit mal to grand mal. Seems to have happened once on lamotrigine and now on keppra and lamotrigine still had the seizure even on both. Pretty worried as I work in a nursery and the environment is making my absences worse since the first seizure and I get head pressures it feels as though someone is pushing my brain I have them 10 and sometimes more a day. Any advice would be awesome thanks x
Claire I don’t think there is anything normal in epilepsy. As a kid, I had one grand mal seizure at age 7. Afterwards, my episodes were classified as petit mal. I went through various med before finding one that worked. I had remained seizure free for years and in my 20’s my Dr. closed my case. Two years later, my epilepsy returned in the form of generalized tonic clonic (grand mal) and partial seizures. It’s been a menagerie of trial and error drugs/combos since then. I’m currently on both lamotrigine and levetiracetam (Keppra). It’s a frustrating experience finding the right meds and the right dose. After problems last year, my Dr. has changed the form and dose of both meds 3 times. I’m in my early 60’s and expect to remain on drugs the rest of my life even if I remain seizure free. I hope they soon find a med(s) that work. I have never experienced head pressure. I think being under stress lowers the seizure threshold. Is working in a nursery putting extra stress on you?
My Dr doesn’t believe in vitamins but I take a daily B complex since some B vits are thought to play a role in the nervous system. Sorry I can’t offer any specific advice.

Hi Claire they are scary for us and onlooker xx
I started mine at puberty and 14/15 (late developer lol).
I was put on phenobarbitone at 14 and been on them all my life. in my 60's now. You need to see a Doctor about them as thats a lot to have.
Keppra and pheno work for me but each individual is different. Plus I notice my hair is falling out on Keppra argh !! but I haven't had a fit for 4 years. You need to see a Hospital Doc and tell him you do not want ones that he would not give his/her family if they had epilepsy, Good luck xx keep a smile there xx

Meant to put I am on Vitamin B also xx so Steve is correct
Good luck Claire xx

I take lamotrigine (Lamictal) and my least favorite, levetiracetam (Keppra). I also have psoriatic rheumatoid arthritis in my right knee. I see an arthritic Dr. for it, not my neurologist, and take a prescribed med. I read that hair loss can be a side effect of this med but my Dr doesn’t think I’m a high enough dose to affect me. But he said I could take a Biotin Lozenge if I wanted to. Biotin is a component of hair and nails. I’m not bald and haven’t notice any new hair growth but my finger nails have become smoother. They use to have noticeable ridges. You may want to do a web search to see if Biotin interferes with any of your meds. if you decide to try it.
Hairs to you (pun). Steve (drinking coffee)

You might want to consider getting a medical alert bracelet, necklace or some other medical charm with an inscription of your name, the meds you take, and emergency phone number to contact or other pertinent information engraved on it. Personally, I wear chain around my neck with a dog tag tucked under my shirt. I’m not married so I have my brother’s cell and land line phone numbers on it. You can find them on the web. Mine is stainless steel, cost +/- $55.00 in the U.S. They can get expensive if you opt for gold or a fancy design. The only option I paid extra for was for a thick necklace chain. I noticed the thin chains put more pressure on my neck. But what do I know about chains, I’m a male and don’t wear jewelry. I don’t know if you have this feature, but my cell phone has an emergency contact name and number at the top of the page.
