Sorry about the long post, I just need help, I am very nervous and scared right now.
I have been taking citalopram 10 MG once daily for 2 days now and am feeling worse then before. Its like citalopram is causing anxiety. Yesterday I got a headache at 2 pm and it lasted til i slept and was the worst headache i have ever had. Also makes me wanna throw up. My body is numb at times but also tingles. Today I am very weak and sleepy. Before i took citalopram I was feeling much better. This pill seems to have made it worse for me.
I read about side effects and my question is will these side effects go away or is this a sign I should come off citalopram because these side effects started after the 1st pill (I have only taken 2 pills in 2 days both at 9:30pm)?
I feel like I wont be taking this again tonight but I am getting really nervous/anxious/scared about what will happen if I dont take it tonight.
Back story:
- I'm very new to anxiety meds, started struggling with anxiety and panic attacks about 2 years ago and just a few weeks ago I visited the doctor about it.
- I went to a walk in as I don't have a family doctor, First visit doc gave me low dose of ativan/lorazpam and blood test for thyroid, ativan was ok, even helped me sleep but I didn't go overboard because i am aware of the addiction possibility.
- Walk in clinic called me back because doc wanted to discuss results
- 2nd visit I get a different doc
- He sends me for another blood test as results were not clear also he says ativan is bad etc and takes me off and gives me citalopram
- I have taken 2 citalopram in 2 days and feel very sick and horrible overall and feel like a panic attack is around the corner. Very scared.
Yes it’s very common. Mine went away in a few days on 5mg. Although I still have very low points and have had several good days here and there! I am now on 20mg for 7 days. 6 weeks altogether. The brain fog is starting to lift but I am still very tired with no energy probably because the anxiety is sucking it out of me!
Ok so everything you are feeling is normal side effects. I became a lot worse when I started taking the meds. Hang in there if you can. Have you got people around You for support?? I hot so bad that I had a low and small course if diazepam which helped a lot and allowed me to sleep. Side effects I felt were headaches , nausea, fatigue, tingling all over...adrenaline pumping through my body, lack of appetite and not able to sleep. It's a long road ahead but it will get better. Google deep breathing and relaxation techniques. Stay in touch on here it will really help.you. I found it made me feel that I could accept that everything I was feeling was normal and I would get better. Good luck
It's definitely normal, try not to panic more.
Antidepressants are cruel, they often make you worse before getting better. It will settle down in a few days. Just got to ride it out if you can.
I personally would hold back on taking anymore at least until you get the blood results back again. Presumably the dr took more blood if the first result was not very clear.
Just want to say thanks to everyone who replied. Just something this little has helped me today. When I wrote that I was having a very minor attack but since then I have gotten better. Headache is starting to kick in and body is tingling, getting sleepy (Prob because i didn't sleep much last night) but I think today should be ok. Now time to worry about tomorrow lol
