Help please

Hi

Advise please. I am on 15mil mirtazapine for last week for lack of sleep/ low mood

Been told to maybe switch to citalopram with a sleeping aid as a better option

Any advice is welcome

One the the initial side effects of Citalopram is insomnia for many people - it does wear off, though can linger a bit.  It will help lift your mood but these meds often take many months to start working, but they are good.  The side effects also include anxiety which can be tough, but perseverance on these meds do pay off.

Hi Gavin,

Mirtazapine did nothing for me in the way of helping me to sleep.

I have been on Citalopram for 2 weeks and for the last three nights I have slept straight throuh the night...not done that in YEARS. However, I DO still continue to take a Unisom and my .5 Ativan at bedtime... But with any other SSRI I've tried, that still barely helped.

So, tonight I am going to try a half a Unisom and see if that helps. smile I hope that works. Other than that, the Celexa (Citalopram) has done me NO good whatsoever yet for depression or anxiety (in fact, I'm worse, but at least sleeping better at night!)...but will hang in there. Wishing you the best! Take care.
