Help

I had perthes disease in 1979, I was cleared of this at the age of 16, am now 42.  I was in a RTC in 2011, which was not my fault now the solicitors are saying that my pain is from my perthes disease and not from the accident.  What are the related health imply ions from this disease? Can any one help?

Hello Lisa,  Perthes disease is as you know a childhood condition and when you were discharged you no longer had Perthes disease.  It is possible though that the head of your femur was damaged  (deformed) by Perthes and that as a result of that you could have the early stages of osteoarthritis.  An x-ray will show whether or not the head of femur is deformed and whether there are signs of osteoarthritis.  Make sure you get your own solicitor and that you have a medical examination which includes an x-ray.

The usual outcome is arthritis. My mother was warned by a consultant who himself had it that I would be cripled by arthritis by the time I was 35. Now I'm 80 and have had ocasional stiffness and pain in my hip for over twenty years but not enough to need a hip replacement.

What does your GP say? I would ask for an X-Ray and an opinion from an orthpaedic consulant.

hi lisa, In perthes usally will have limited HIP movement, some time groin pain while you sit for more time. it will limit our freedom of doing activities like spots, staicase climibinng. worst case the femer hed will get damage or conert into osteoarthritis.

better to consult any otho doctor. with the help of x-Ray will come to know thw condition of your femer head. don't worry will get alright. but do swmming & cycling which will help more to get releife from pain and also movement of the hip too.

Sitting on certain surfaces on public transport can cause me hip pain,

My X-Rays evidently look worse than they are and consultants are surprised at my range of movement .
